Howdy,
Well I don't know exactly what to say other than it is just time. I have had this truck for about 4 years now and I have loved it thoroughly. It has never let me down and I know it won't let you down either.

Build Philosophy:
I built this truck to be an expedition ready rock-crawler. I wanted to be able to drive it all day and into the night, sleep in the back or on the roof rack, wake up, make some coffee and go back at it, driving it to and from the trail, desert or nastiest of all: city. This emphasis on all around use-ability required some compromises, as such, it is not a beat up, trail-only rig. The best buyer will be one who needs a truck to do double duty as street and trail truck.

Time for specs and pics.
The complete build took place over a couple of months in the winter of 2002.

Suspension:
6" A.O.R. orbit eyes--orbit eyes are in the solid mount ends only
Rear springs are 6 inches longer than stock--no blocks, no add-a-leaves
Con-ferr front shackles--2" longer
.250 plate rear shackles--3" longer
F-250 shock towers
Pro-Comp 336000 shocks--the longest shock available at the time, around 15 inches of travel.

Steering:
Complete Marlin's Hysteer kit w/ 94 IFS box

Drive train:
W56 re-built with Marlin's HD bearing kit
Dual Tranfer Case-stock gears,
Tranny and T-cases have about 12k on them
5.29 Sierra gears front and rear
Completely re-built front end-new trunnion bearings and seals throughout, all built to spec and torqued properly--pic attached.

Engine-
Bought as a rebuilt unit 3 years ago, it had about 40k on it, has about 70 on it now. No oil drips, never-ever overheated, uses 1 to 1.5 qts between changes. The last compression check I did yielded 180s on all four cylinders.
Bored .020 over
Injectors serviced one year ago by RC engineering
Beefy 3 row V6 radiator--the temp needle never budges. I've driven it down I-5 at 65 mph on a 110 degree summer day with the A/C on and the needle stayed put about 1/3 the way up the gauge.

Interior:
GT Grant steering wheel
Autometer teach
Pioneer 8000 organic display CD player
Sony X-plods in the doors
600W Kenwood amp
350W Impulse sub in small enclosure
The best: SR5 Seats out of 90's 4runner--So comfy.
3 levers to play with-low, pretty low and really low
No rips, stains, cracks, fading etc,
BRrr, recently re-charged A/C works better than a lot of new cars
This truck is a freaking Cadillac compared to most

Exterior:
Shiny red paint and extremely straight sheetmetal
Wrap-around .250 wall bumper
Con-ferr style roof rack--I like to walk around on it, but I only weigh 140 pounds.
Lights on the front bumper.
35x14.5 Super Swamper SSRs

Is it perfect?
No, it needs a couple of touches
It needs a speedometer cable
Probably the biggest thing is that it needs Lockers and rock-rails. Let's just say that I never used this truck to its capacity. You have a lot to gain from my gentle foot and emphasis on maintenance and sheetmetal. For a couple hundred buck in lockers, this truck will walk anything you could throw at it. Be glad I didn't lock it up, it would not be in the condition that it is.
It also needs tires in the next year or so.

Hey lilbuddy,
How'd that p/s pump work?  If your avatar is any indication, I'd say you're movin right along.  Hopefully the sale of my truck goes as smoothly as the sale of that pump!  Cheers buddy,  :beerchug:

No prob Shamb,
Yeah, it has massive potential.  I went out with a YJ after I built it and the YJ could not keep up to save its life--the funny thing is that I didn't even have a front driveshaft! A little suspension travel makes your truck go a long way!

Update:
the truck passed smog with flying colors this afternoon.  It is ready to move to its next home.

Hey, if that's an '85, then it must be EFI, like it says on the tail gate, then how come it doesn't have a factory tach?

Sorry to hijack, but I thought all EFI pickups came with fac. tacs.

Looks like I learn something new every day

Nope, I had an 85 4runner EFI and it did not have a tach.

Only the SR5 models did.

gferris5

That's right as far as I know--SR5 gets you a tach, voltmeter, and oil pressure gauge.
Thanks everyone for your interest. Here are all the pics I have promised various people.  The Tranny looks like it has a drip on the drain plug--that is because I just changed the gear oil in the main gear box and rear case/doubler unit. Old oil looked fine, but it needed to be changed.

Oh, big update: The truck passed smog today with flying colors.  I didn't even have to do anything to it.  Cool eh?

Okay, here come more pictures. Sorry that the first one is at such a strange angle, it didn't look right no matter how I turned it--you get the gist of it. Pretty shiny as far as transmissions are concerned.  The rear end is a little dirtier than I'd like, just needs a scrubbin.

gferris5

Wow, the rear end looks like it is coated in grime--it is not, I promise! It is not as clean as the front end, but you can definitely touch it with your bare hand without your hand getting very dirty.  Hey, the camera adds ten pounds...of dirt. Right?

wmflyfisher

You wouldn't consider a trade for a really nice 85 pickup same color would you???

gferris5

Sure, trade plus $5000--just kidding. I am doing this cash only because I need to pay for grad school applications and my new project--a 1968 Chevy pickup (2wd).
