me and my Buddy's have been running a bike brake and cable as a secondary throttle on our shifter for the past few months and it has been the best $7 mod EVER!! If any of your guys are sick of side stepping your brake and gas while your on a hill i guarantee you will love this more than your old lady

I drove a truck last weekend with the same setup. It's the shizzle  :afro2:  I'll have one on my truck real soon.

ive tried that way and think the bike brake lever is about 500 times better

I was thinking of changing mine to the bike brake handle but I figured I couldn't "lock" it at a certain rpm for my onboard air.

If you have or had a/c (at least on a carburetted vehicle) why not just ad a toggle switch to the high idle plunger that kicks out and increases your idle speed to accommodate the added stress on the motor when you turn your air on.

I know a few people who have done this.  I have been wanting to do it to my 4-runner but have been to lazy.

I had two on my street bike, one for throttle and one for rear brake so I could do tricks and stuff  :yesnod:

Uncle Jesse

On my 90, I found the body harness connector under the dash for the a/c amplifier.  I tried to find a mating connector at pick n pull, but no luck.  Turns out that a stereo connector fits just fine.  Anyway, three jumper wires from pin to pin in the connector makes a cheap shorting connector(no cutting and splicing).  Then I removed the a/c fuse.  Now, I push the a/c button on the dash, the light comes on, and the engine idles up.  The only crappy thing is that it is a fixed speed.  You can set the amount of idle up, but not on the fly.

Now if you want to get a little fancy you could get this:

Control your idle by the push of a button with our Electric Throttle Control Kit.
This Electric Throttle Control Kit allows you to adjust your truck idle with the push of a button. The 46" stainless steel pull cable connects to the throttle lever. The attached the solenoid can then be mounted virtually anywhere under the hood. The solenoid is then wired to the control module that is attached to your own supplied on/off switch. To activate, simply flip the switch and the idle speed will be adjusted to the single RPM level you have pre-set during installation. The solenoid pull cable can be shortened to fit your application if needed. Designed for use on most gasoline, diesel or CNG engines.* The ET-100 is fully adjustable for us to 1 1/2" of lever movement or 20 lbs. of force. Available in 12 volt models. Made in USA.

This is what I'm going to install on my truck. It is made for outside but it can be put inside, and you can put it anywhere you want.

Control your truck's idle from outside the cab with these Throttle Cables.

These vernier throttle cables are simple to operate and built to last. Turn knob counter-clockwise to raise idle and press center button to release. The center release button covers the internal cable mechanism to make it weatherproof. Cable is duraflex coated to keep water out. Installation hardware not included. Order long and cut to the length needed. See AI-50A for mounting hardware. Made in USA.

This one is the cheapy one just pull out:

In-Cab Throttle Cables adjust from inside the cab.
This cable is designed for mounting inside the cab of your truck. Pull the handle out until you've reached the desired idle then turn it 90° to the right to lock it. Reverse this procedure to release. This cable has a duraflex cover for long life and is supplied in a 10' length which can be cut shorter as necessary. Does not include installation hardware. If hardware is needed, see AI-50. Made in USA.

The install kit is about $30.00, don't you just hate it when they don't sell the whole thing together?

ive thought about the kind that has a fixed rpm range but i still think the brake leaver on the shifter is the way to go. Because where is your right hand 95% of the time...........its on the shifter. So when your in a sticky situation you can have one foot on the clutch and one on the brake and your hand on the shifter giving the proper rev's.

Ill make a quick vid with the cam and post it.

Thats what came with my premeir welder,I dont like it for crawlin just to maintain hi Rpm's  Its real finicky in the lo rpm range like 1000 too 2000 rpm it just wants to slowly creep up....So I just use that for the welder and my old 6 year old hand throttle.

Have you ever just grabbed that handle and pulled out? You don't have to turn the knob, it will pull directly from the spinner for faster acceleration requirements.

I have that one for the Premier welder.  It is mounted under the hood but I havent hooked up the actual cable to the throttle cable.  I really need to do it, the last trip we used it and it is annoying having to sit in the cab with your foot on the pedal.

Is the one you have long enough to mount inside your cab? If so put it in so it can be used as a hand throttle. You can just pull it out and not use the twist knob. Plus you just hit the red button and it will release the hi-idle. To pull out just  depress the red button and pull on the spinner, it will come right out.

How about some pics of how you mount the lever to the gearshift!  I'm curious on your mounting of the levers!  I can see if you have a hurst t-style shifter knob, but if your using a factory round shifter knob?  :headscratch:
