Been a Dodge guy my whole life but I've seen the light in the sense that I'm about to pop if I'm not behind the wheel of a Yoter  I've been doing my research as much as possible and just lurking around most all the boards trying to learn most my stuff. Been looking for a rig without much luck then I found a '85 pickup that I'm going to buy(if everything goes alright). My goal is to have a very capable street worthy rig. Something that could take a beating at Tellico but still be able to be drove to work and on weekends. Don't know if that's possible but I'm going to try. What I'd like to know is if anyone has suggestions on what I should do. But first off anything I should look for when I go to look at this '85. I know the basics of where to look for rust, leaks of course, head gasket problems, anything else?  Not trying to noob up the board, sorry if I did  :slap:

I believe you can make a street-worthy rig and still have a truck that can go just about anywhere. Just look at where I've taken my somewhat stock truck. If I made just a few more mods it would be and awsome rig. I think in my case a little more lift, bigger tires, and a Marlin box and I'd go anywhere I want. Normally if I can take the better lines I will, but I still have as much fun as everyone else that is taking the extreme lines and breaking their junk. I still go there wheel the trail and only do what is required to complete it.

Toyota's are awsome, just a little build and you can go almost anywhere

hey jim,  check out BIGTONKA hes from the birmingham area,   a 85 is a great choice,  although im kinda partial to the original ,
just check for rust in the frame just behind the cab, if its small it can be fixed without a problem,   with some 33's and a locker in the rear you can go damn near anywhere,  i'm what you would call a purist i guess,  in the area of lift,   i would never go over 3-4"s of lift,   the lower the rig is the more stable it is, swerving on the interstate at 70 mph or on the trail.

The thing I'm happy about is the truck I'm going to look at already has a 3" lift and 33s  My plan is just to keep everything real simple and clean. Guess as it all goes ideas will grow :disturbed:

That's the way I like it, real simple but extremely functional. The simpler the better, less things to go wrong.

Can't have nothing I tell ya! I went to look at a '85 Yoter Saturday morning and from being told it sounded really nice. Got there and thought man what a wasted trip. Drove it and was disappointed :shake_head: At least we went down there in my buddy's 84 Xtra Cab so that made the ride enjoyable   So I reckon I'm going to have to start browsing back through for sale ads and here to see if anybody in Alabama has a nice Yoter. :phone: Help a brother find a truck

If you want to get a land cruiser I have a 76' that we're trying to sell.  Some assembly required but we will help build to clear out some space in our yard.
