Hey Mike, The rules stat that you can only modify what came on the crawler stock. So you makeing a revolver shock means that you must have added some material like Tim did. Cheater :nonono:

Okay guys..... this is funny!!!!!  :haha: You do know that these are just cheap walmartToys!

You do know that too much flex is bad when it comes to RC's.....Right! Anying over 75 Degrees on the front axle makes them really floppy and you get stuck and bound up in holes really easy. I perfer to set mine up around 65 degrees.

Oh and the the video link you posted has me in it. I'm the one "Fishing"....

Don't worry about eh cheap toys comment, heres the Nylint I bought for my 3yr daughter to play with!

Thats because she can't handle the one I built for the Wife. TLT axles and layed down pede tranny....

and then of course I've got the Clod that I'm leading ORCRC with in the Unlimited Class.....  :best:

So are you guys hooked yet....... If so, go sign up at www.RCCrawler.com, and get to one of the RC Comps that is close to you. You will be truely amazed at what these RC's can do!!! BTW lots of these guys are offroad enthuesists(sp?) that you might even recognize.

Dave I spy-ed Mikes truck. He did the same thing I did, kind of anyway. I tested the rig last night. The wheelbase is dead on!!! All the rocks in the yard are way doable.  Talked to Tim today, and I think I'm going to buy another one and keep the suspension stock so we can run a stock class.

Damnit, I have been to 3 walmarts and cant find the 1:18th scale.  I went to my 4th walmart and they had one, I could not believe it.  Anyways I got it home and the steering does not not work :(  Not sure if it is the controller or the truck.  Guess I was not ment to have one.

Hmmmmmmmmm...............  Well, my controller was sloppy for the "forward" trigger, so I had to open it up and grease all the moving parts. Also, my left turn is sloppy as well, so if I were you, I would 1st call up the company because they seem to have a good reputation at getting stuff fixed, and if they cant help, then I would open things up and investigate. Do you have a multimeter?

I got it fixed.  I took the cover off the steering motor and the wire was crimped in with the screw.  Cut it out and soldered  some new wire in and she is good to go.  This thing crawls pretty good, I was suprised.

Here is minei picked up today.  there goes all my money but it was well worth it.  The 1/6th scale was the only one thay had left in the building sop i had to buy it.  OMG it is soooo much fun.  Got some pics and some video of a couple minor roll-overs.  I made it fully roll over twice and it landed back on its wheels, it was awsome but no video of that.  sucks there aren't any rocks near the apartment.  The 1/6th scale ones seem to go a lot slower then the 1/18th scale ones.  thay can crawl.   I think it crawls better then my real rockcrawler.

I have done no mods to the suspension yet.  But i did cut out the rear quarter panel on the bottom for more clearance.  And i pulled the left rear coil spring off of the shock trying to climb up a verticle chair.  And that is stock flex.  And the front tires hit the fenders at full stuff, they need to be trimmed.  And i managed to pop one of the front steering axle joints out of place while i was flooring it on its side.  the tire got bound up in the carpet and "POP"  But i popped it back into place and it works again.  I thought i had broken it already on the first day.  sucks i am too far away from the marlin crew for the comp.

BigMike

Wow, you got the big one! Well you'd better bring it to the Round Up becuase we will have the little guys there

I am going to do a small one-on-one compitetion this Friday night at Dean's House, so I will post some pictures of my crawler kicking his butt!

Hey Rick, bring your Nylint to the Round up! Get it modified so you can compete with the big boys! :ha_ha:

Well the Office Gals wimped out and never showed up. So I brought my beast with me to Dean's house when I was doing the wiring and I fought him on his own home turf. He's got a couple decent rock piles there, and he was impressed on how well mine did :gap:

But both of us experienced electronic difficulties. His radio kept not working, and my steering overheated after about 20mins and I lost all of my steering. I think I'll have to buy another one for spare parts or something :headscratch:

So now the competition has been moved to the Round-Up. We will all be bringing our Crawlers, so at the springs, it's on :hammer:

Here are some pics from Dean's house. Mine is the one with the modified treads and the ARB flag, and Dean's is the stretched wheelbase one:

Ah ha! I just found out why my steering was over heating! My cheap-o radio's steering wheel is great to the left, but when you turn right, it does not automatically recenter itself, so when ever I would turn right and then let go of the wheel, it would stick, and the steering motor would be jammed trying to turn more to the right the whole time, even when my truck was just sitting still while I was watching Dean drive around. So I was loosing power and battery life, and eventually cooked the motor and lost the steering all together.

So I tore the radio apart, and discovered that the plastic piece had fallen off of the centering spring, and the screw had backed out and was loose. Some realignment and axle grease and now it's as good as new :gap:

Also, this morning when I got to the shop, TURBO and John were playing with both their buggies over near the canal. So I took mine over there, and TURBO found a kickbutt hill climb that's steep with plenty of loose rocks. It's pretty fun, but if you roll it, you'd better catch it or it'll go into the canal hahaha

heh, I'm telling you, for a cheap WalMart toy, they have tremendous potential once heavily modified!

Well, this evening I went back out to the canal and played around some more, and I managed to blow up the front end. :shakehead: Now that I've got my traction and suspension dialed in to a tooth, I am starting to find weaknesses in the unit's design...

I broke the only support for the front transmission output shaft, so now the gear was walking out of position and I was left with a 2WD buggy.

So I quickly consulted my associate TURBO, who gave me the plans on his TURBO-Brace™. So I quickly fabricated a TURBO-Brace™ and now I have an upgraded front diff that is near bulletproof! And it made a huge difference in performance too. Now when the drivetrain is under a load and torquing, instead of pushing the shafts up against plastic, now it's pushing up against metal which has a lower cooefficient of friction, so I have less powerloss while under a load, which results in a smoother power transfer and a longer battery life! See for your self!

I don't know, there are little air vents on the diff, plus I've ground into the diff in a couple of places for suspension mods, so it will just collect dirt and I am to lazy to clean it weekly or whatever...

Thats a great idea to do some cutting to the tires. Thats first thing I thought when I saw how they came out of the package. I am going to have to go to wallymart tomorrow and see if they are carrying the small ones yet. I dont want one of the big ones although Hyenas does look pretty fun. So Mike when are you going to come up with some gear mods? Time to go lower. What did you do to the rear that makes it get that "rear steer" look? Hey, ya'll should start stocking these things. Or buy a bunch and after you have the comp at the Roundup sell them and have a group demonstration on how to properly modify and pilot your new Nylint. :driving:

Well what we should do is call up the company and tell them that there is a demand for a Hilux model, and that it should have little Marlin Crawler :turtle: stickers on it. It's got Atlas stickers (I removed mine) Detroit, etc. so naturally if they made a Toyota version, it should have a couple :turtle: logos on it.

About the tires, I was hesitant at first. It's not that I particularly like the Baja Claws, but it's just that amount of detail that I dig and I wanted to leave the tires alone because they look just like the real thing, but man, after cutting 'em up, the traction nearly doubled, and the tires become much softer also because 50% of the support across the lugs has been removed.

And I've decided that I will release some of my previous "de-classified" rear suspension pictures, now that I've abandoned that idea because I've got something better now.  :wink2:  :eyebrow:  :ladys-man:

So here you go, the original idea that enabled me 1/2" more travel, making my rig flex out at 5.75"

These shackles, as I've been calling them, kicked some butt for a while. I could not get anything better in the rear, so I started turning my research to the front suspension, and through a group research effort, I now have something much better than that for my rear suspension, and it will remain anonymous for now.

Here are some more. If you are going to build some, I didnt know where to start, so I just made my links at 3/4" eye-to-eye, and this turned out to be the best size because it just barely clears the inner tirewall on compression. If you make the links to long, then the spring will interfer with the tire. Also, note that I left a notch where my shackles mounted to the axle housing shock mounts which prevents over extension and maintains the shock to return to its normal outward position.
