ok, so i have an 87 4runner that i am planning on driving to the mcr4 in sep. i wanna know what yall think about the liklihood of my sucess or dimise
it has the following mods to increase my chances:

33 inch les schwab mud terrains--33.25 tall at 35 psi
a spooled rear axle
a dual case set up including a 4.7 marlin gear and marlins twin stick setup
skid plates that span from the front of the runner to the gas tank
custom .250 wall drivelines with new high strength ujoints
marlin\crazy dan rear bumper
full sliders
front bumper/skidplate combo
155 hp 22re

the drawbacks are:

ifs
no lift
5500 dollar paint job

thats about it

With you driving...baby steps, get it over that hump at the end of the driveway first!   :disturbed:
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

I did the con in my 86 IFS Runner, auto trans, on 33's, a 2 inch body lift, 4.88's and detroits f/r, but I also have done Empire Strikes Back on 31's and a 3 inch lift with only limited-slips.

I think you could do everything except for the Little Sluice.

I'd say you could do it with the cases and all.  Gears seem to be the biggest thing with lockers that would get you through.  The only thing that would worry me is the paint job.  It would kill me to get it scratched but if you know you can make it through and don't worry about getting a couple scratches then go for it.

You can make it!  Just wtch the trees, they will come out and bite that paint right off the cab.

You'll be fine, unless you already cut off the front. IFS just means 3 wheeler, once you get used to the feeling of being on 3 and that it is normal for an IFS. :gap:

Just get those diffs welded and go for it.

I think im going to take a trip to PC and see what my wimpy truck can do. It is in no way 'con material yet. I got BFG A/T's in the 31" flavor and open diffs. no lift. By next year though  :eyebrow:  look out!
