Sounds good   do you have a contact for the motors ??

4THEWKN

Am i connected???  Your joking right?? Homie you tell what year month and day you want the motor built on and I'll find it.    ::)  Am I connected  ::)  Ha Ha.      All joking aside     No problem Lynn motors are somewhat easy to find.

Trackvino and Mike came over last night to wire the beast up. We should have it fired up Friday night.

I dont know where Deans at, but there was a lot of work being done this weekend.

Where you at Dean, people want to know how the 3RZ is doing!!!

BigMike

Ok guys,

Updates :_order: :_order: :_order: :_order: :_order:

As many of you know, I stopped over at Deans house for a couple of nights of pure hardcore adrenaline pumping wiring!

The First night of business, Wednesday August 31st, I got to greet Dean's truck with it's new engine installed like a new born baby. These newer engines (2003 for Bevin and 2004 for Dean) are really clean, especially considering that they hardly have any mileage on them! I think Dean's engine only has like 9k miles and Bevin's engine only has 14k miles. Man, they are just born!

That Wednesday, I basically got to assess the damage required to get this thing wired up and purring. As that was the first time I had seen the truck since Dean started this conversion, I had to go over what had been done and what needed to be wired in. Basically, the vehicle electronics were still intact, because of the fact that Dean had decided to retain his factory Engine bay fuse box. This saved me from not having to re-wire in the head light relay with high and low circuits, and the horns/lights/blinkers/etc. Also, since this truck previously had a 4.3 V6 in it, Dean had already converted the truck to an EFI fuel tank, complete with fuel lines and a working circuit for the fuel pump and sender.

So my mission was to get the computer and the engine related electronics and ignition circuits going as quickly as possible in order for this truck to make the MCR4 Event which, at that time, was 16 days away.

I was only there for about 3 hrs that night and I only worked on my notes and set down a game plan for what was to follow..............

And that's when all wiring hell broke loose.

Friday, September 2, just 5 Days Ago, I got to Dean's house at about 6pm, and after kicking his butt with my RC Rock Crawler Buggy (see pics here), I started working on the wiring which would turn out to be 12 STRAIGHT HOURS OF NON-STOP GET-IT-AWN HARDCORE WIRING.

Using my wiring arsenal of 2 Pages of Wiring Notes that I got from my progress with Bevin's 3RZ Conversion, since these two engines are both 3rd generation 3RZ motors, the wiring was a direct crossover!

It took me 9 SOLID HOURS that night to get to the point of PURE BLISS! And with TrackVino and Bruce standing by, we had it running by 3AM Saturday Morning:

Can you tell that everyone in that garage has been up for at least 20 STRAIGHT HOURS? :yikes:

Well it wasn't enough to destroy our spirits as it was all smiles after that. We stayed up for another hour as I took care of the remaining circuits and the other guys picked up from a long night of hard work.

I must give my regards to TrackVino and Dean, as they both helped me out. TrackVino helped me out by doing some soldering for me which gave me time to work on other circuits, and a couple wiring errors down the stretch at about 2:30 am caused about a 1/2 hour delay as Dean and TrackVino helped me locate the problem, which was a mistake on my behalf that was causing the ignition circuit to hang open. But this was a good discovery because I found an error in my wiring that I must also resolve at Bevin's house when I go there next. Also the following day Dean discovered that his Alternator was not charging, which he corrected by hooking up the missing wire. Thanks Dean!

All and all, I thought it was a very successful venture. Dean and I both traded out on work and we helped each other out as well. If it wasn't for Dean, I wouldn't be really ready for MCR4, and I like to think that I greatly improved his chances of having his truck ready for MCR4 as well.

So we both are very happy and Man, I'm telling ya, these 3RZs are an amazing engine and I know that Dean is not going to regret going from a 4.3 Vortec V6 to a 2.7 3RZ Engine.

Now that I've got these two 2000-2004 model Engine conversions up and running, I now have complied complete wiring diagrams and pinouts that can enable the average wire-scared weekend warrior a shot at getting his own 3RZ wired up and running. I would like to say that I feel I've perfected the wiring swap process of the 3rd generation of the 3RZ Engine, and I plan on making my research open and available to the public as soon as I can get time to convert it for the forum.
As for the 1st gen 3RZs, now that I've got both Mine and Marlin's running, I also have a complete understanding of the early version 3RZs, and with my research notes that I made while doing Marlin's conversion, I also plan on making those wiring diagrams available as well.

All that is left for me is to dig into the wiring of the 2nd gen 3RZs (97-99 / Twin Coil DIS system) and then I will have enough data and knowledge for the first three generations of production for the Toyota 2.7l 3RZ Engine.

With all of the hard work by Bevin, Dean, Marlin, and Myself, I've successfully revived 3 3RZ Engine's back to life all within the past 6 Days! :o

Regards,
BigMike

You know, they didn't work for Bevin either, but they are just regulary MPG movie files, Wincrap Media player can play them just fine. But boy do I hate MS.

They open up in Quicktime Player for me.  Needed some more light on Dean's face in the first vid.  You can almost make out how tired he is in the second one!  I've had that look before, you're very excited, but yet your sooooo tired that you just end up with this blank look on your face!!  And the two man wave from Track and Bruce!

Man no way I could of figured this out with out Big Mike. That guy's head works like no other I've seen but Marlin's. Guess the apple don't fall to far from the tree!!  Well I went to the Toyota dealer yesterday and had Todd my hook-up there, stick the  Factory Toyota Diagnostic to it to see what's going on. The problem I'm having is the motor will only rev to 2950 RPM. Todd said it looked like the comp. thinks the truck is going 111mph in any gear. The max the comp governor will allowat 2950 RPM. Why? Because the computer thinks the truck is allways in 4th gear. This was done to fool the computer into thinking that it has an auto trans. This will be fixed with a Manuel trans comp. Tuesday 2nd day aired from OH.

BUDDERS

If you guys fot any wirring tips for this conversion, please let me know.  I'm in the middle of wirring in a '04 3rz with an auto ecu into my '85 toy that came with fuel injection, wich I think is the same setup as Deans rig.  So far, I've stripped the auto trans wiring out of the engine harness and modified the Taco alternator to accept the '85 charging system harness..  Any other pointers are definately appreciated.

Ok here's the skippy..  After an hour or so of trouble shooting Angelo and I figured the mass air flow was bad. But I had a hard time believing that the Mass air flow was bad with only 8000 miles on it. So I buzzed up to Bevin"s and hooked up his Mass air flow and it did the same thing!!! So what the heck!!! Well lucky for me Mike was there and figured and figured out in a few minutes what was wrong. (no voltage to MAF) Hooked up a jump wire and BAM she works like a charm. On the way home I was doing 92MPH with 4.88 and 35" tires, and still had a little over 1/3 of the throttle left!!! YA BABY   Dean..............

BUDDERS

So Dean (and Mike for that matter),
Are you saying that the ecu wouldn't let the engine rev beyond 2950rpm because there was no voltage to the air flow meter?  If that's the case, I'm sticking with my auto ecu.

4THEWKN

No I think it would do it with both computers if there was no power to the MAF meter. But the manual ECU got rid of all the 700ed codes (auto trans codes). The truck has been run in limp mod the whole time. I just took Trackvino for a ride and he said this 3rz would smoke his 4.3 auto set-up. Man I want a supercharger!!!!!!!!!!!!

BigMike

Yes BUDDERS, stay with your auto for now; it will run just fine. However, you will have to trouble shoot with trying to trick the auto ecu into believing it is still controlling an auto trans..

Also I've heard rumors that an auto ecu won't run full timing because it is anticipating a gear shift, but this should only be noticed under a light load, and would run full potential if WOT.

Kind of off topic but Bigmike did you ever get the weight of a 3rz compared to a 22re?
Rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.
There are only 3 kinds of people in the world, those who can count and those who can't. Which are you?

4THEWKN

Up Date From the Con--  On the way up I got 17 MPG. I did not weight the the truck but it is over 5000lbs loaded. On the way home I got 19 MPG. The truck pulled all the hills on Hwy 50 in 4th!!!
