The cylinder came up and tapped the valves but the head and valves don't seem to be damaged

its hard to tell from the pic, but did the rod split right above the cap bolts?

Mike D

it snapped about an inch up from the cap bolts

It took out the sleve and went up into the water jacket

not only did the rod go through one side of the block but both and i don't see how that could happen at 3 1/2 grand unless my tack is way off :headscratch:

i dunno man, you said the engine was SUPPOSED to have 65k on it?  maybe the rod was bad when they built it, or maybe it had way more on it...you should know how 3500 RPM feels in your truck anyway, ya know? If your tach was off, it wouldn't feel right.

Mike D

Yeah it a new tach and it did feel right and that is what i always pull that hill at

maybe the rod was cracked and you were in it a little harder than usual, and she didn't like it? :dunno:

Mike D

The thing is it didn't make a noise before it blew it just gernaded all of the sudden

Good luck getting a 2l through smog.  You cant swap a diesel into a gas chassis if your in smog country.  Ahhh but I can on the east side.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Mike D

well I didn't win the truck it went for 1650  :shocking: and it had a bad t-belt and something with the fuel system was bad.

now i'm thinking of my choices of motors and so far I like the 327 the most

Why stop there?  If your going to scatter your drivetrain, and you will.  Do it right.  I have a 454 sitting here for $500 take it and shove it in there.

I have a turbo block in the yard that has an almost matching hole in it when compared to the last picture you posted. The rod broke in nearly the same spot.

Holy 22re blocks Batman! Bum luck man, just yank another junk yard motor and keep on going. Better yet, if you got the funds then yank two and start a slow rebuild on the other. You know, as $$ allows. Then you've got a spare

Is that already built and they are trying to unload it, or are they gonna put one together for you for that, cause that is a sweet price.  Even a rebuilt from Jasper or the like is around $1700.

i'd just build it myself.  from all i've seen, the early blocks seem to have less problems with this sort of thing...maybe it's just a stouter bottom end.  though the '85-up are ALL the same(no main bearing differences like the '81-84 etc) but i've never had bottom end trouble on an early engine.  at least when you build your own engine you can be exactly sure of how everything is going to work.  not to mention building one of these is a snap

if its any comfort engnbldr sells sets of NEW forged rods(same as stock) for like $100 a set if im not mistaken.  i'd just get them balanced to the rest of the rotating assembly to make everything goes smoothly though.
