Speedo no worky
« on: Jul 20, 2005, 04:12:10 PM »
My speedometer stoped working today, it started yesterday on my way home from work. While driving it would work for a few miles then all the sudden stop and after about two more miles down the road it started working again. This morning on my way to work it was fine and now nothing. Any help would be appreciated. :help:

If your cable is broken, I have successfully repaired two broken cables.

I ground each end where it broke down, and then welded the two back together, and then ground the welds down.

One of the two that I've fixed is in my truck right now and its working like a champ. I've max'd my speedometer a couple times at about 90 MPH (the 1st gens only go up to I think 85).

Did you weld it with a mig? All I have is a stick welder

I think you are right, it is an electric speedometer. My brother had an exta-cab that he leased and we disconnected the speedo when he was about ready to go over the alloted mileage. If I remember it was just an electrical connection we uplugged. Turned on his check engine light when we did it though.

If it is electronic, would I have to change out the guage cluster to run dual cases behind it? Inch worm just came out with an adapter to run a gear drive case behind an a340h  :clap2: . I know it is inchworm but I can still use a marlin dual case adapter.

I think the plug is on the left side towards the top side, it may have just come unplugged. :dunno:

Well, if the ideal of excluding the lesser equipped (stock or otherwise) is accepted... there is no fundamental difference between that and a Sierra CLub ideal of exclusion. If we cannot embrace the 4wheel users as a whole. We are not fighting for access. I cannot be that shortsighted
