Air Shocks?

I have a friend that has a Jeep Cherokee that needs to increase the rear ride height by 1 to 2 inches for minimal time and cost.  His last mod was to install a 3 inch Rubicon Express lift (good quality), but the problem is that he loads his truck so heavy with "junk" plus his heavy custom rear bumper with tire carrier that it sags on the soft springs.  The kit already has an add-a-leaf and I'm not sure any of us have the skill or interest in doing a hybrid type of pack.  He is way to throttle happy for blocks to be a good options, and adding a longer shackle might increase his flex/travel that will cause it to rub more.  I was thinking that an air shock might increase the effective spring rate of his rear suspension and allow for some adjustability when he loads it down.  He isn't worried about losing flex and I think he will eventually damage the soft springs with the load and driving style.

Anybody have any experience with how air shocks work?  I don't know much about them, but they seem like a reasonable idea to consider.

I ran air shocks on my elcamino didn't really change the ride very much. I had air bags on my van and they would really stiffen up the ride.

The only thing that might be super bad with air shocks would be pushing the mount thru the unibody on the Cherokee, does anyone have any experience?
