What channel you on, I'll go out and listen for you. :gap:

I usually have 2, one in my MH and the one I'm installing.

Just act like a trucker, then ask for some local info. If you know of a trucking co. depot nearby ask someone if they know where it's at. They'll think you're a driver looking for the depot.

Hey, just say "I need a mic-check on #" (where # is the channel you are on)

17 and 19 are usually trucker channels, so if you are near an interstate, then switch on channel 17 and say "hey 17, can I get a mic check"

Then you can study the CB Jargon list located here: http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=6827.0

Yeah when you are testing a unit, guys will always give you a mic check. You might also say, "checking a stock unit, how do I sound?" If you are not tweaked and Peaked or if you don't have an amp. This way you can find also the distance you are able to get out and you will know if you are dialed in or if you need some antenna adjustment.

Saying "All truckers are queers" also works as a good mic check on channel 19.

My buddy parked his truck near a major trucking route and waited until he heard a couple truckers talking and then he said in his best impersonation of one of the truckers that his truck was bigger and that the other guy was a girl thingy. I never laughed so hard in my life. :psss:  :moon:

    be very careful when doing that,  ive seen other truckers get shot for less.  :smack:   LITERALLY      there was a movie about some kids messing with a trucker that was a little strung out and he almost killed them several times,  cant remember the name of the movie,   :headscratch:   i want to say "CandyCane"  but i dont think thats right,  it had the guy from fast and furious in it

and truckers dont say "mic check"

say, "break 1 9 for a radio check"   and if your radio hasnt been peaked it may not be getting out since most truckers radios are running 50 - 500 plus watts and a stock cb only puts out 4 watts

Joyride.

That move made everyone scared of truckers.

My grandpa used to drive trucks, so he knew exactly what to say for a mic check.

How do you peak a CB?  Throw on an amp?

im picking up some guy talking but i get no answer

He might be on an amp, and since you're not, he can't hear you.

Here in Hawaii, taxi drivers loved to use CBs to talk to eachother (before the cell phone/ Nextel alert days).  Of course, once in a while, they'd come butt in to our conversations and start cussin at us.  But through simple triangulation using 3 guys, we'd track down the guy and ask him kindly to stop swearing at us...

i usually have no problem talkin to truckers, maybe cause my dad is one and ive been around it all my life. but my best suggestion would be to talk with the most outragiously southern accent possible, where you cant even understand yourself. its from my experience that if you sound even the slightest bit educated that they dont understand you and wont talk to you.

and for the range factor my stock cobra dx 19-II gets out a max of 10 miles at night and about 7 miles during the day, but my dads twin turbo uniden could probably reach canada from texas.

Rebeltilldeath3

I've gotten out 30 miles and back running bear foot on a Cobra 29.

Duel :rofl2:  that was the stupidist waste of film i have ever seen in my life

back when those old trucks were running the road,  they might have to be in 1st gear pulling a long grade out west and some idiot,  aka speilberg, sp*  comes along in a car with a v8 and passes dude going up then goes down the otherside at 30,  so that keeps the trucker from building some momentum to get up the other side,  OH that movie pisses me off to no end everytime i even think about it,  if i had been the trucker in that movie,  he's have never made it past the second hill :maddest:

if you ever get up towards tennessee, between nashville and chattanooga  theres a cb shop at Monteagle ,  its the best CB shop on the planet,  well at least it used to be,  they did all my radio work when i was on the road,    i was in a trucks stop once upon a time talking to a guy on sb  that was over 600 miles away,  when i noticed the guy in the rig next to me waving at me,  i flipped back to 19 and turned my linear off,  he wanted me to turn my set down so he could get some sleep,  i said dude, turn your radio off if you want to sleep,he said it WAS off,  my signal on the sideband was bleeding thru his TV  :yikes:

well.. whats a good reasonably priced combo for wheeling in mountain areas.. sometimes our groups can get 5-10 miles away and lose signal.. so.. who likes what?
It may not be the end of the world.... but it may be the end of all hope... F' it can't turn around now.

79coyotefrg

a cobra 25  is a great little radio for the price,  but make sure you get something with a dynamike, or mic gain  and a rf gain,  and of course they all have a squelch,  i run my squelch wide open and then dial back the rf to clean out the static

uniden pc 68 is another really good setup

whatever you get make sure you have it tuned to your antenna
the antenna makes the radio

kinda like having a 40 gig  hard drive and bagillion speed modem,  with dial up :thud:
