i really want a 4runner to add to my collection, and the price ($3500) seems right.  The problem is that everyone has got me so scared of the 3.0 that i don't know if i should buy it or not.  Someone please help

It's probably worth it, that's not very many miles. What year is it? I just sold my 88 3.0 and it had 277k. It still ran good and passed smog. Someone will chime in and say they are junk, mine was'nt. If you take care if it, it will last. If you decide to buy it, ask if the timing belt has been changed and the head gaskets if it falls in the years where there was a recall. Maybe then you could get a better deal. Good luck and welcome to the board.

I'd buy it.  I blew one at 185K and have another one in my truck with about 150k on it.  both engines have been very good to me, the 1st one ran perfectly,  no problems at all until it blew.  Still not sure what exactly is wrong, thinking its the block, but I wouldn't get chased off by the 3.0.  Its toyotas first endeavor into the v6 world, so it has some flaws, but it is a toyota  just make yourelf aware of the headgasket recall, and the how recently the timing belt has been done, and use them as bargaining points

I'd buy it if it is reasonable, a club member bought one about a year ago, it's his dd. He has had no trouble with it and has upgraded it with a doubler, lift, 4:88's, electric locker, ezlocker front, goes everywhere he wants it to. I think he bought it with 105,000.

If the price is right...why not...I mean a 7MGE, 7MGTE, or a 3.4L will all fit and aren't too bad swaps
That's how I roll

i'd say go ahead and get it. not as bulletproof as the 4 cyl but its still a pretty solid engine. little extra horse power isnt a bad thing either.

I have one in my 92 runner and have never had a problem. I don't think its as bad an engine as everyone thinks.

thanks for the info everyone!  But i found a better deal on an 89 runner 22re for $ 200.00.  I just dropped a new long block in and have run it to initial break-in(300mi).  Runs great.  The runner is in exceptional shape.  Not beat up, red, everything works well.  Now to start modifying 'cause its completely stock.  I am very happy and the re was really easy to replace as scary as all that fuel injection looked.  My problem is that i don't know what wire is best to hook the sunpro tach to.  Any help?

hook it to 1 side of your coil and set switch to 6 cyl
