Panamint Charlie

Good afternoon folks. I've been lurking for a while since researching SAS kits. Some of you may know me from the old days of Surprise Canyon.  I started building up one of my Toyota's after watching Marlin and Jon from all pro and some of the X-Toys guys running the falls back in the late 90's.

Anyway, I run a 85 SR5 pickup, a 88 4Runner, a 98 4Runner, and a 79 Jeep Cherokee Chief. Retired rigs include a 85 X-Cab SR5, 81 SR5, 89 Power Ram250,and a fuel injected 67 Bronco.

You can get a run down on some of my rigs here.  They might not be as extreme as some out there but they get me wherever I point them.

Happy Trails,
Charles

Thanks, MiniSimp.  I was being lazy with my post and just left a link. I see you found my videos.  Check out the Surprise Canyon clips. I also have a few pics here.

What's up, Rocksurfer?  I'm hoping to hook up again with Steve and run some trails at Corral Canyon.  We ran Los Coyotes just before they closed. Are you in So-Cal?

Thanks for the welcomes! :rockingout:

Um about as northen as you could be in Southern Cal. :headscratch:  Santa Clarita, is my home, we also got a last run at Los Coyotes and had planned another just as they closed it and had to change our run to Stoddard Valley. Too bad about them closing, but hopefully no horses show up and they don't make any money then maybe they'll rethink (again) about closing. Nice to see you here with your vast experience out in Panamint, one of my club member's used to spend his summers camping with his family out there, but since he's retired and his kids are grown he doesn't go out so much, we have a few x-members that moved out there and are now Gear Grinders.

UNBREAKABLE

That's how I roll

Makman

So, for those who weren't there,  how did you roll that poor Toyota out in the desert?  From the looks of the aftermath, I'm guessing you weren't in Low-Low when it happened.

:welcome:
If it never breaks, people can only speculate how much it was overbuilt.

Wow you've got some great pictures of PC, thankyou so much for sharing those!

Well...It was a dark stormy night. Mars was in-line with Jupiter, a cosmic anomaly caused a imbalance in the rings of Saturn. I was in 2WD heading into a wash boarded curve at about 35MPH we believe the Detroit engaged and the the inside wheel broke traction. From there the rear spun out and sent me into the berm from the road grader. It was all upside down from there.

I was on Wheeler RD.about 100 yard from Huff RD. at Superstition.  Lucky for me, some guys saw the head lights go in directions that headlights don't normally go and came over to investigate.  Otherwise, since my cell phone did not work that close to the border it would have been a long walk.

I had a friend do the same thing a week later while driving a dirt road in Idaho. Same vehicle, same configuration. My truck gets pretty squirrelly in 2wd when the locker engages in a turn.

Oh and Happy Fourth to everyone.

Hey PC,

I showed Marlin your website and he is wondering what city you are out of?

Just showing Marlin the pics of Suprise Canyon almost made him cry. He has not been there for two years when he hiked in Nov. of '03. We want to go hiking in again sometime this summer, we just need to find the time.....
