Vibration after duals
« on: Jun 27, 2005, 11:25:31 PM »
Hey Guys just fitted me dual cases and the rear drive shaft is 910mm long same as the front im using a cubal cardan front and rear.
The only problem ive got from the install is i have a vibration at 18-22kph mainly in drive doesnt when coasting .
Can speed upto 120kph no problems no vibes .
Would i be best just too leave it i can put up with it as  dont go 20ks that often and if i hammer down then dont feel the vibe .
Any help appreciaed.
Dave

My 4-runner vibrates even with the CV driveshaft. The pinion angle is still too great.

Yer i have a feeling it may be the drive line angle but being the coil susp its a pita to change .
Do you rekn it is ok to leave the vibration will it have any long term affect on the truk ?
Like i said its only at low speed .
Cheers Dave

Did you use a used shaft for the rear? It could be a bad joint.
Try swapping out the driveshafts if they are the same length.

Could also be your pinion angle.

The only long term problems:
1. Early U-joint death
2. Possible seal (t-case and rear pinion) death

I would also try turning the drive shaft 180 degrees. Sometimes it will help (don't ask why...I dunno. Saw it as a suggestion on another board, and tried it, and it seemed to help)

good luck

I have had the crush sleeve loosen twice in 200,000 miles, solid spacers should solve this. Grease the driveline like it is a religion & the u-joints will last quite a while. It is easier to put a leaf sprung housing & leafs in than trying to rotate the coil sprung housing.

Thanks Guys
The Unis were changed in the cardan joint with new 1s when i had them built .
So i dunno if that is the prob i will try turning it around 180deg see what happens .
most people here say leave the vibe as i may make it worse at my normal 80-100k driving and even offroad i dont go the 20k it is either faster or slower.
Yer i would rather change pinnion angle but like prismo said its easier on a leaf than a coil runner.
Ill monitor it and see what appens .
How often would you grease the unis?
Like once a week or like 500ks?
Thanks Guys realy appreciate the help.
Cheers Dave
