another suspension question
« on: Jun 24, 2005, 02:10:26 AM »
hey
i am new here and i have been reading a lot on what springs to go with to lift my 85 toyota pickup, at first i was going to go with chevy 63's in the rear with jeep 4 inch lift springs in the front. but after researching alot of people say chevys are to stiff, and their are just so many differnt combo's to go with that i cant figure out which one to use so if i could get some feed back on what suspension setups people are running with 37 inch tires, it would be a lot of help

and what size shackles are u guys runing?

thanks
mario

Rears up front with a 2" drop hanger and 5 1/2 hole to hole shackles.  For the rear There is a killer spring out there thats in camaro's nova's etc thats 5 leaf.  Mix in two leaves from a generic chevy 52" spring pack and move the hanger forward 7 1/4" with a 7" shackle and your gold.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Also depends on how high you want to go. You can check out CJ's 4 runner running Marlins 5" lift springs. With that big of a tire, you might want the extra hight

Hey WT, when you put the rears on the front don't you have to move the mounting point back? and also put a spacer on the long side mount so you don't end up with a leaner. I am going to be putting a set of National springs on the rear and haven't decided what to do with the front. I was going to just swap in some of the leafs from the rear to level out but if I don't have to move the hanger I'll use the whole rear pack.

Nope you dont have to move the mount back.  You move the hanger forward about 1" and run a longer shackle.  For the perch height difference you'll need to either put an extra leaf (short) in the driver side pack or weld a 3/8x2" wiece of flat steel bar onto the driver perch to level it out.

I knew you had to move something, thanks for the info. Must you have a cross-over or can you still use the push-pull box?
