The Devil
« on: Jun 06, 2005, 11:58:08 AM »
I recently heard about a poll that asked people if they believed that a real devil exists.  The conclusion was that over 80% (may have actually been a higher percent) do not believe that there is an actual living devil (that is actively working to get us to do evil), even though the Bible is very clear on the subject.

We all watch Star Wars and other epic battles of Good vs. Evil, but have you actually considered that this is a reality?

Note:  This question is not to be mixed up with a belief in hell.

Hopefully this poll will actually get some votes, I have noticed that people often "refuse" vote.

I voted!!!

I do beleive there is a devil.  Like Blackdiamond said, the bible is very clear on the matter.  The devil, or satan, or beelzebub, or mother-in-law (j/k) or whatever you would like to call him, was an angel cast out of heaven by God for attempting to overthrow Him.

Just curious, what do you mean by darwinian?  I am a christian, beleive Jesus died for our sins, and whosovever beleives in him will not perish but have everlasting life and so forth, and that God created everything, but I also beleive in different aspects of evolution and adaption, and survival of the fittest.

The Big Bang theory
I wasnt sure, because on of my best friends is a darwinian, and his beleifs are survival of the fittest, and adaption and evolution, not the big bang theory.

If I remember correctly, Darwin is the one that came up with The Big Bang theory.  I'll have to look into it again sometime...maybe I should just  :lipsrsealed:  and let BluCruz answer your question since he's a believer and knows more than me  :smack:   :disturbed:

The Big Bang Theory was actually proposed by a Belgian priest named Georges Lemaître.

I'm certainly not opposed to discussion on the issue of "higher powers", but my question would be if you don't believe in a personal powerful God, what is there to really believe in?

Also, the big bang theory is not reasonable based on the laws of physics.  I am not an expert, but when something explodes all of the debris spin in the same direction (picture those spinning firecrackers).  There are numerous examples in our solar system of moons, planets and other things that spin in a reverse rotation to the rest.

The whole theory of evolution takes way more faith than I have, it is much more reasonable for me to believe that God (a higher power) created everything than to assume that everthing just appeared from nothing.

YEs I believe in Satan, anybody who claims to follow any translation of the bible cant deny it.

As far as darwin, I had a teacher that studied his work, he actually went to the gallopagos islands and compared darwins research to the actually animals.  Even this Biology teacher admitted that for everything just to happen is a leap of faith and he believed that something started it all.

Darwinism, the big bang...I believe god created everything, did he use a big bang to get everything jump started in the begining...I dont know the bible just says "In the begining god created the heavens and the earth"..he could have used a big bang...

Well, there are objects that slam into each other all the time, that much force can alter, destroy an orbit, it can also change the directions of through which gravity can work on an object, thus changing its spin.  Newer theories suggest that the big bang was actually the collision of two branes (parallel dimensions) and as they colided their surfaces were rippling like ocean waves, thus the big bang was one event, but occurred at several different places within the existing dimension.  This allows for the fact that things travel at different speeds, in different definable clusters, and spin different directions, etc, etc.   :soapbox:  K, I'm done.

Have you ever actually read the Bible and compared it to historical fact?  Archealogists have found a ton of evidence that supports the Bible.

If you don't believe in a god, where did you come from and where did things begin?
