Mazda or F-150 springs?
« on: Jun 01, 2005, 12:34:26 PM »
I can't remember what year make, and model Mazda pickups came with the 56" rear springs. Anyone know???  :headscratch:  I'm going junkyard hunting when I find out.  Or should I go with a 57" f-150 spring?  :help:

1982-1989, and I believe you are looking for the 2wd springs, they are 52 inches.
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

Maxda's work well but they dont last very long.  They are a thin leaf that will snap at the main eye's over the course of a summer of trail runs. ;)
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Not totall true....

I installed my hybrid Mazda Pack with a mazda buggy leaf back in 2000 and its still under the rig today. The key is to double up the main leafs.... (although I haven't had any problem swith the buggy leaf either.)

I put on some 64" chevy springs works great, you can get them as a 2,3,4,5 leafs. I'm running a 3 leaf.

Check out ShaunB's build up, WHITE_TRASH used some 79 caddy seville springs with some other chevy springs, Probly one of the best setups I've seen, he got 4"-5" lift with no blocks,  do a search on "caddy" you'll see what I'm talking about.
I have allpoo's right now and they are way to stiff, so I am going to pick up either the F-150's or the caddy's if I can find a set or two.

Well, I went to picknpoop on Saturday and scored a set of rear springs off a 90 F-150 2WD, they are around 56-58" and look like they will work really well.  I'll post up some pics when I get'em on the truck.

Please do!  I've got a set of 1984 2wd F-150 springs in the garage just waiting to be put on the rear    I want to see how much lift you will get out of them and measurements on where you placed the spring hangers and shackle hangers.  :flamer:

X2    I run the same exact setup and it kicks ass.  I love it.  My packs have run the con 3 times and moab with many other runs in between.  They are faily flat and flex well.  Just make long skackles.

You could also do a dual shackle setup with some twisty shackles, thats what I use with my chevies and it work grrrrrrrrrreat.

I had hangars made at the local steel supply place. They were pretty cheap, and I had them built out of 1/4" so they were a bit more beefy than stock.
They pic of my old yellow truck is with a dual shackle setup in the rear. I used the ford shackle and a regular straight shackle. It worked very well.
It was a little too soft at first, but it was much better after I put in the add a leafs. They firmed it up a bit, and obviously didn't hurt the flex any and it gave it much better road manners while on the street.

Whats the center pin off set on the f150 springs....It is MHO that besides the fact that they are made up of thin leafs, the centered center pin on the mazdas is why they provide so much travle... It has been stated by a few in here that mazdas are no good becouse the leafs are thin and they are prone to bending. But if th pack is built right they can last a long time.Id say no less then five with a anti wrap leaf is a good starting point..IMHO you will get better results out of a pack made up of more thinner leafs, the one with less thicker leafs
