Vented Rotors
« on: May 23, 2005, 12:53:43 PM »
I was about to order the vented rotors for my 81 axle when I noticed they were only for a 82-85 axle. How can I use the calipers from my IFS and what type of rotors do I need so that I can use the IFS calipers? What width spacer would you guys suggest also to get the front the same width as the rear? Jeeze I accidently posted this in the wrong section a second ago. hopefully a moderator will delete my topic that is in the wrong section.I tried deleting it but it wouldnt let me. :smack:

your IFS calipers should bolt up, just may have to grind a little off the dust sheald. I think it was fj40 rotors I put on my 83, and they should fit your 81 too.

at least I think that's what I was told.  :qtip:

Well I guess I could just order them and see if they will work with my IFS calipers. I'll wait a bit to see if I get any more feedback from soem other guys in here. Thanks for the feed back so far.

I'm thinking I might just give the guys at Marlin a call tomorrow to see if they will work with my axle. I really do not see why they wouldnt work. Is there that much difference b/t the 81 and 82 axle? What width spacer do you guys think would make the front of the truck even with the rear?Im thinking the 2in. or 3in.

if your rear axle is a stock 81 axle your front and rear are already the same width.. you only need the wheel spacers when you run a 86+ rear end and 85 or earlier front.

I need to read a manual to lock them? lol  So I found these neat autolocking hubs and installed them. Sometimes they dont stay locked while I am backing up, but that's fine because I dont have a backup camera to see where Im going (like our RV) so I just simply dont ever back up"- BigMike

My 85 had non vented rotors on it   Like I believe the 82-84 are also. I got the FJ 40 vented rotors They have 6 bolt holes to bolt then on a Fj 40. I had to drill these six holes out to fit over my studs and purchase a set if Ifs Calipers (4 Piston compared to the 2 on the older calipers)

the holes  that bolt the rotor to the truck hub,  79-81  had 6 bolts  that bolted them to the hub, 82-85  had 8 holes,  2  holes  had the bolts, the other 6  the wheel studs went thru

So can the be used on the 81 axle still or modified to be used. I just ordered a bunch of stuff to upgrade my brakes and need to know if i have to hunt up a new axle.
