Almost good to go, anyway. I put a "new" '82 carb in to replace the one I have, but I seem to have a huge vac leak problem... So I'll prolly pull it apart and clean it up and what not, maybe rebuild it. I'll phone for a price today on a rebuild kit.

SAWEET!!! :D I just ordered some tube doors from Steve @ MC, just a few minutes ago. I can't wait for the summer time!!! Cheap AC! :woohoo: :eyebrow:

I work at a trucking company, and our drivers deliver down to North Blackstone Avenue in Fresno, CA about 2 blocks away from MC, so I get them to haul all my orders all the way back here to Canada. Nice guys I tell ya! Free shipping and duty free (as long as I keep it under $500 or so)!

Hey thanks for the cheers prang & TONKA!

Well, I still need to rebuild the carb, but haven't because I've been working so hard on getting it completed that I forgot to sleep and take care of myself, so since Saturday I've been majorly ill.

I'm feeling a little bit better today, so I'll see if I can get the carb rebuilt right away and head to the muffler shop today as well. I can't wait to get pulled over for a VI... :smack:

Small updates...

Got my tube doors in from MC, they are awesome! A little chilly driving around with them in Canada, but fun none the less. Only thing is when I received them, they didn't come with the rubber stopper. Bummer, they kind of rattle especally when going over bumps. I tried putting some weather stripping stuff in to quiet it up but its not sturdy enough... I'll have to phone Steve and see if they can send some up this way.

I also got my muffler installed by a local shop around here call Midas Muffler. Good guys, especially Scott the owner in Aldergrove. I drove it over there open header, had him take a look, explained I wanted it out of the way of the axle, springs and shackle. So he suggested to fit it inbetween the frame and flatbed. PERFECT. It's now way out of the way of any rocks or anything. Tight fit but it works!

Nice man, glad you got it running, I know how you feel since I just got mine rolling.

I like your flat bed, not a fan of square tube but yours I like.  I have been thinking of doing a flat bed as well.

Ramrod

why didn't you put your gas tank under the flat bed?

Thanks dude. Ya I really like the look of tube better but I don't have a bender and have no skills with one either, so I decided to go square. It was cheap enough too, $250 Cdn including everything.

I dunno, after I beat this thing into submission, I'm pretty sure I'll want to build up a third gen anyway. I like the looks of 1st, but it's getting too hard to find replacement parts for it. I wouldn't mind doing an SAS on a '94 sometime in the future...

I was thinking the same thing.

Because that's where the muffler goes...

I measured it out and it wouldn't fit. It would have been impossible to route the muffler out of the way of the rocks, narrowed frame, drive shaft, axle, springs, and gas tank. And I definitely didn't want to get a smaller tank to make it fit. Besides, there are upsides to having it above: 1. Easier to access/remove/service. 2. It is placed up higher than the fuel pump/carb so it is gravity fed as well. 3. I can always easily replace it/move it afterwards. 4. Because I could. 5. I like different ideas.

eh.... :dunno:

:headscratch: Well, you see, I narrowed the rear portion of my frame significantly, so much so that I wouldn't be able to fit my gas tank underneath the flatbed without something hitting it. So up top it goes. Reference page 3 & 4 to see what I'm talking about.

I'm not worried too much about it. I know it's a little cosmetically challenged right now, but after I get married and save up some cash I'll be able to afford a new fuel cell, maybe like a 30 gallon one. :eyebrow: It'll look cleaner and then I can get any size and put it where I want.

The only update I have for the past three weeks: :woohoo: I GOT MARRIED. :woohoo: June 3rd was the day, everything turned out beautiful!!! :woohoo:

My truck is being very jealous lately, I don't think she likes the fact now that my attention to her is divided. In fact, all I have done with it is driving it to and from work. :therethere: Poor girl. I won't be working on her for another week CUZ WE'RE GOING TO MEXICO FOR THE HONEYMOON!!! :woohoo:  When we get back, after we finish setting up our place, I have plans to build some sliders and a traction bar. I also have to tune the carb still...

Oh well, I'll be back in business soon. Stay tuned!

Oh, btw, does anyone know how to distinguish a 20R from a 22R besides looking at the in/ex ports???

So, I've been too busy setting up our new place I haven't been able to do anything on the truck. But we're slowly whittling away at our to do list, and it looks like I may have some time to do some maintainance on it. My poor engine...

A few days ago I had a couple hours to burn so I played around with the carb because the engine would still chop at anything below 1700 RPM. And I know it was the new carb I put on there because before it would run awesome with the old carb. Why was I switching it? My E-choke died on my old carb so time for a new one.

Anyway, I looked it the Haynes Manual and found out my old carb was an 84 model, and the new carb was an 82 model. The difference? Emissions junk.

So I pulled the top off the new 82 carb and noticed one of the ports for the jet in the secondary was plugged with some unknown hard matter. It was like epoxy or something. I tried scraping it out but to no avail. So I pulled the 82 top with the good choke and matched it with the old 84 base. I put it back on the truck and she purred like a kitten.

I was happy after that and thought I'd take it for a good burn now that I had renewed power from the carb tuning. When I hit 4th @ 2500 RPM, I stepped on it to go up a slight grade and the engine revved up to 3000 RPM but I'm wasn't going any faster. :shudder: Time to pull the engine and do the clutch. I'll have to get a fly wheel machined, and I might as well do my rear main seal while it's out. I think some new grade 8 bolts would do well too for the pressure plate. And my oil sender is leaking, and my valve cover is leaking and my rockers are ticking so needs an adjustment... so I have some work set out for me. :eyecrazy:

So I am back. Back in action. Well building anyway. I got my newly beloved wife to help me on some of my junk, and most recently sliders!!! :cheese: I love her!

They were made with the remainding stick I had from my flatbed build. 2" square .125" thick HSS for the legs and slider bar, and 3/8" flat bar capping the ends. They are a bit crooked but I'll fix it when I lean against the first rock I'm sure, HEHEHE. :driving:

One more thing to check off the list. Here are some pics:

And I also got my spare 3rd welded up.

I pulled the case from the third so I could get at the gears inside. I had to keep a wet rag on the case to keep it from heat warping. :toilet:

I started with a 3/32" 7018 DC rod and got it tacked into place and filled with one pass. Then I cranked it up to 150 amps and really burned it in with a 1/8" 7018 DC rod nice and solid. I pushed first to work out any holes and then layed it back down to smooth it out. :flamer:

Then I assembled it back together with locktite and a breaker/spanner bar set up. :muscles:

We went to Harrison Hot Springs for our "6 month" Anniversary. So we took my rig since it was snowing out. We hit some logging road trails while up there and checked out some of Beautiful British Columbia's back country.
