I also fabbed up some diff armour and welded it into place. I just need to finish cutting my shock mounts and weld them in... Then I can bolt the rear axle into place...

Got some more work done, just rinky dinky stuff. I etched out a template on some 1/8" 2x4 tube, and used the torches to cut it out. I don't need to buy no stinkin shock tabs! Freestyling it or something right?

In the pictures you will see a steel platform. I bought two plates that were 4'x8'x1" for my new welding tables. They were cut on the laser table so the edges are nice and square and level. That is my small project on the side, but will help me in the future for all my welding projects. I also bought one for Maffy as he has helped me greatly on my build. Master Welder gets a welding table!

Skid plates...

Just kidding. We're gonna build me some new hefty welding tables. They are probably over kill for what I'm gonna use it for, prolly could have gotten away with 0.75" thick or even 0.50". The idea is so there would be no chance of warpage, so all my welds will be nice and square/flat. Also, because they weigh approx 1300#, I can attach tools to them and not have to worry about my table moving on me. Plus in case of an earthquake... HAHAHA. :slap:

Sooo I got my Gotpropane.com kit in the mail! WOOHOO!!! So I got to work putting that together. I only got as far as hooking up various hoses and whatnot back to the engine, and I got the carb pulled apart, and bolted to the adapter. Cool kit for sure, everything included. My buddy Steve helped out a bit, funny boy with his crazy antics.

Aww it's not so bad. It will stay at the shop here, and we have 6 different forklifts to choose from. We have a small lift truck that can handle 5000# ... up to a large lift truck that can handle 36,000#.

Here is the start to my new welding table. Maffy helped me greatly with welding it up. It is bare bones at the moment.

Materials:

4'x8'x1" plate
4"x4"x.25" HSS tubing
6"x6"x.375" flat bar

We started by welding the 36" legs on with the plate up side down. Then we flipped the plate on it's legs, placed the feet underneath, and welded them in place. As I go along I will attach to it a 6" vice, perhaps a tray for the welder, and hooks for the cords. I will also need to weld in some gussets so it can handle heavy load weights. We cut and welded the legs on so precise, all planes are nice and level/square, no shims needed. Have a look:

Got some more work done. Pulled the front axle out and stripped it down. Swapped in the new Long cromo hub gears, FROR ARP studs, vented FJ rotors on the Sky hub spacers, Aussie 3rd, and cleaned up the Birfield soup. I used Maffy's MIG to weld in my ball and steering stop gussets. Next I need to clean up the whole mess, paint it, use the Genuine Toyota SST to set up my knuckles, install the MC inner seals, install my longs, and put everything back together.

Update time! It's on all fours!!! :driving: But before we get there, I'll post up pictures of progress.

Basically, the timeline went as:

Assembled front axle, painted, and installed.
Finished propane install.
Installed bumpstops, painted.
Fabbed up tranny tunnel via Maffy Fab, painted and stickered.
And a whole lot of small piddly things.

Check it out...

The propane system was easy to install. It runs absolutely awesome. I kick myself thinking, "Why oh why didn't I get this kit sooner???" Also, installed some bumpstops. I think I may need to extend the rear ones a little more, maybe about an inch. I didn't measure them right as the rears go a little negative...

Mics stuff... I went and purchased an Optima Red Top, as they are proven for offroad durability. Also, installed a new FJ MC to boost the volume through my brakes.

I hear ya. It takes about 10 mins to unbolt and 20 mins to rebolt the stupid things. Once they're locked, I don't imagine having to mess around with them for a while... :crossed:

Not really done though. In the meantime, I'm building a stand for Warren's JD2 bender, and waiting for the 1.75" OD/6" CR Die to come in. Once we got that I'm pricing out some tube to bend up... :eyebrow: More on that later.

Long Time Update: I finished my truck back Feb/March of 2008, and shortly after the first winter wheeling out I blew the engine. Thought that maybe it was because of my setting up the propane improperly. Was not happy with myself or my work. I got bummed and let it sit for a year while I sorted out my thoughts and direction in life. Looks like marriage, spirituality, and priorities still have not killed my creation.

05/31/2009 - I finally kicked myself in the butt and got to work on my engine. Last symptoms showed water out the exhaust, running on two cylinders, and oil blown back through the intake. Engine is 81-82 double roller style. Compression test showed 40-60-150-140 across the top. Low on water. Oil showed no signs of water mixing. Took the valve cover off, again no water. Took the head off, gasket showed a blow out between #1 & #2 cyl. Still doesn't explain the oil through the intake though... Timing chain is only a year old as are the steel guides.

Water pump - FREE
Engine seal kit - $68 USD from PD.com
Timing chain tensioner - $20 USD from PD.com

Other work that needs to be done until the next run:
Remove bottom most leaf from rear pack.
Install ATV winch for limiting strap in rear.

That's it for now.

No updates yet. Ya, my faith and marriage do come first, so these toys seem to always sit on the backburner. No problem, not like they are going anywhere. I've also been busy with summer conventions and a trip to France besides various other obligations. Now that those are out of the way, I have a bit more time to work on it in the weeks ahead.

Updates will come, just later than sooner, that's all.
