22re engine problem
« on: Mar 23, 2003, 10:07:38 AM »
I just finished rebuilding my head. I've put everything back together and the engine runs great there's just one small problem. The engine will not perform under load. I revs fine but when there is stress on the engine ie: driving it, the engine boggs down. It's almost as if the engine isn't getting any gas. I've had the head rebuilt and there is constant compression in all cylinders, I put knew from Toyota plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and coil. So i don't think that it is the ignition. I've also replaced the fuel filter.  ??? can anyone help ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

hmmmm :idea:well, it might be you got the timing chain one tooth off
i did this the last time i took my head off and just rested the cam gear on the tensioner, it got slack on the crank gear and when i re installed the head it did the same thing, just really sucked   so i thought it might have been wrong and took the cam gear loose and moved one tooth, wouldnt start :smack:
moved back then one the other way and it ran like a winner :~~:
so give that a try :chug:

trust me ,unless you removed the timing cover when you took your head off, it is VERY EASY for anybody to get the cam out of time, all it takes is getting a little slack in the chain on the crank sprocket and bam :smack:you're out of "cam" time
it will idle great, but when you start down the road and the vacuum advance and centrifugal advance does its job, it'll fall on its face
just pull your valve cover unbolt that cam gear and slip the chain around one tooth,  if one direction doesnt help go the other way :chug:
