We went on a night wheeling adventure with the Jeep Club last night.

We also had the meteor shower to look forward to, or so we thought.

There were 11 Jeeps in all, we started on the trail about 7:30 pm, and by about 11:00pm had reached another main road bisecting the WMA we were in. Most of the group decided to head back but with only a 1/2 hour or so to the meteor shower 3 vehicles (about 6 people) decided to tough it out.

We went back to a clearing we had stopped at earlier. I had never seen the sky so clear or so many stars in FL. so I was really looking forward to 'the show'.

So there we were, standing in here in this clearing on the edge of a marsh, in the middle of the night, with the woods in the distance staring at the sky waiting.

And waiting... and waiting... there were a couple sightings, but it was sure nothing spectacular. And I was looking the other way every time :hammerhead:

By about midnight, after a half hour of staring at the sky, our necks aching, we started hearing strange noises coming from the darkness and we decided it was time to pack it in.

It was at least a good 30-40 minute drive, in 46* foggy night air, back to where we parked the truck.

I had on long johns, jeans, a turtleneck sweater, insulated coveralls, gloves (and had my gloved hands in my pockets) my Marlin hat underneath a big furry rabbit skin 'mad bomber' hat. And I was FREEZING!!

It wasn't on the trail as wet as we expected but as cold as it was it was just as well.
But it was really fun to get out, we didn't get home till 2am, and slept till noon! That felt GREAT!!

I didn't get very good pictures ....we were bringing up the rear the whole time... but since this is the sightings of thread...

Jeeps waiting on Mark to fix a broken rear drive drive shaft...
The Mammoth poised for welding..
Watch yer eyes... DDDZZZZZZTTTT...
and a stuck jeep...

well it's not really a sighting of the willy mammoth but it is preparation for upcoming MCR6... we bought a snazzy new tent and a couple cots, they fold up really compact... because it was raining out Mark set the tent up in the living room (it's empty since our house project has been put on hold for the Mammoth project)... it is really cool!

It's 7'x8' which is the smallest I could find in a cabin type tent, and it's 7' high. It is COOL to be able to stand in it!
It's got a door front and back (the front door is bigger then the back, we set the tent up backward, that's the back door you see in my pics), a window on either side, and if you don't have the rain cover on it, it's all open screen on top.

The rain cover also makes a nice big awning, so you could sit outside.

Party at our place!

there were a bunch of different colors for the cots, looks like I should have got the purple or teal ones to go with the tent.
But then again Mark might have :slap: if I did :talkingn:

In the first place, the floor won't get soggy :slap: That's why it's waterproof, and in the second place, we decided they'd be too much trouble and we're leaving them home again.
Actually with the in-laws.

Well we're down to the last two weeks and getting the LBC in shape for the trip.
ANd it's a good thing we did pull it out and start on it now.

Initially we pulled it out to get some sealer paint on the roof, but there are other things that need work too.

Mainly right now Mark is working on the propane generator. It was all gummed up and he can't get it started.

Of course, before he realized the regulators were all gummed up, which seems to be a typical thing for propane, he was twisting the knobs all around and isn't sure how they should be set :ack:

But I got the roof scrubbed down, and didn't fall off so that's a start. Now I've got to wait for it to dry, and put some paint on it. At 85* in the blazing sun it shouldn't take long to dry!

I hate that about motorhomes, you don't use them enough to keep them in constant repair unless you keep checking them out. Then when you do bring it out nothing is working like it was when you parked it.
