Summit Radiator
« on: Jan 13, 2003, 11:28:40 AM »
Is anyone running a Summit radiator like #SUM- 380331

It's a 2 core 31 x 19 but it doesn't tell the thickness.

Is it worth the $179?

I plan to run a summit radiator soon.  Yes they are worth the money.   I paid over $250 for my 3-core copper radiator from Performance  (not worth it). The two core one inch each tube's and the crossflow design should out perform the 3 core.  I'm not sure if you have the room though?  I have a 83 truck and thanks to my body lift I now can fit one inside, also I plan on ditching the third pulley on the crankshaft ( that truly determines whether the radiator is too thick or not).  I'm running a modified  Black Magic fan from flex-a-lite set at 200 degree's.  I lived in Death Valley for a year and I have been tweaking my cooling system  since then.

The other thing to remember is to get the radiator with the right inlet's and outlet's,  Chevy and Ford are opposites, though I don't have the catalogue in front of me I believe Ford style is what you want,  lower driver outlet, upper passenger inlet ( if you are running a 4-banger??)

Good luck with the setup and don't waste your money on expensive 3'cores like I did years ago.

Thanks, that's some of the info I was looking for.

I measured the area I have and the 25"wide, and it must go on top of the frame. The PS box also gets in the way, not to mention the AC lines. But I can relocate the lines.

I did check what configuration I need. I have a Supra motor (7MGE) with Drivers inlet, Pass out. Thanks for reminding me.

How do you like your Supra motor in the minitruck?  Was it easy to fit in?  and (if it's efi)  how good is the mileage.  I have a buddy with a complete supra car, and I'm always tossing the idea of throwing one in my truck when my D.O.A. race motor die's someday (at least 200,000 miles from now).  Also  do the trannies swap right in??

Thanks for the info..

It's fun to drive, and swaps in without adapters.

What year is your friends supra. Both truck and Supra were 87. Supra bellhousing swaps to the truck trans.

Both run at 3000rpm power curve so no regearing. It's now just faster.

31" is crazy wide, a 22" wide will fit between the frame or else ya gotta get custom. Here is what I did to fit a 26" (notice the front of the original frame is GONE and capped..

I agree with Brandon, 31 is WIDE. my stock 83 is 21"? wide i think and not much more room in there to play with. would like to try to put some thing bigger in one day, like the next time i have to replace my rad. as towing my trailer up I-5 in summer i could use a little more cooling , but i'm getting by for now. no A/C in my truck and wont have it unless i can find a way to incress my cooling a bit. :driving:
