i have the same deal,  My truck runs realy rich and gets ya high when your driving.  I dont have a cat either just 2 1/4 with 40series flowmaster.  I have been told by some that my EGR valve needs to be replaced? :dunno:  What ever that is.

Sorry forgat to say if ya can get a Highflow cat any were around or below  $100 it a reasonable price,  shop around first,  Also you can try some local muffler shops, Go for small shops, Not shops like midas, or other big names.  Somtimes they will have cats or mufflers that are used somtimes almost new and they might give them to ya.  Thats how I got my flow master, Some guy had it put on his s-10 and he thought it was to loud so he bought a different muffler and they had the flowmaster lying around and just gave itto me. :rockingout:

I dont know for sure, but in theroy your O2 sensor is designed to work woth the restrictive flow ove a cat, therefore if you had no cat it would not make a difference :dunno:   Just a thought, mabey it will work. :confused:

ya  the  cat  gets hot<pipe gets hot<  O2 gets hot :)   with no cat  the o2 is not at right temp.

@bigbadtoy
I would avoid gutting your cat  for smog/inspetion reasons

the o2 sensor that has the most control over fuel strategy is in front of the cat, and most are heated.  Look at the sensor itself, it will be either a one or four wire sensor. The four wire being the heated one.  EGR systems are designed to work with backpressure, hence the back pressure transducer that feeds vacuum to the egr.

If you have a later model EFI truck with the "diagnostic" box, you know the one you jump to check codes, you can probe the box to read o2 sensor voltage.  Just use a Digital voltmeter, probe from the o2 pin to ground(e1 pin I think).  Lean is low voltage, say .1 to .2 volts, and rich is .7 to .8 volts.  A properly working sensor will toggle back and forth from rich to lean.  Just make sure the truck is at operating temperature.
