I have a stock spare wheel on my 82 4x4, the tire is shot and needs replacing. Whats the biggest tire anyone has put on a spare wheel that will fit in the stock location? Also has anyone swapped their spare wheel with an aftermarket one with larger tire and if so what size? I want to use a non spare wheel if possibly with a larger tire. Thanks

A 33" should fit in the stock location, it will sit about 2-3" from from where the stock spare set if the spare tire guides are still attached.

The only issue with the stock spare rim, is the width of the tire you want to run, the general rule is, the tire tread width should be no more than 4" wider than the rim width.

Interco makes their Narrow SS TSL in a 34x9.5/15LT That might be the tallest skinniest tire that would fit but I haven't confirmed it.

havent had a spare under my rig in years, always in the bed and usually chained to my exo cage.

if the spare fits under the bed thats great since it keeps center of gravity lower but lowering the tire could be sketchy depending on where yer at(same with hopping into a bed to get spare), plus the mechanism could be frozen from all the dirt/mud/ect in our wheeling environments.

I have a drawer system and fridge in the back of my 4runner so that isn't an option for me.
