Datsun Divorced T-Case
« on: Apr 11, 2005, 09:26:40 AM »
I have just found a Datsun divorced T-case, it is gear driven with 2.07 low range gears. I was wondering if it is possible to run this behind a stock Toy T-case?

I had one behind my 4.3 turning 38" as a daily driver and towed some heavy :pokinit:. I did rip the side out of one once, but that was because the mounts were loose. I don't see the need to use one behind a Toyoa case, That sounds like mor work than it's worth. Also the drive line will be hard to get to run smooth with all the drive shafts needed.

Yea, I think it would be allot less expensive to use two toy cases.  Datsun's have the front output shaft on the drivers side also.  What this case is good for would be a setup like 4.3 litre/2wd SM420/Datsun case/ford high pinion 60s

Hmm... That sucks. Well, at least it was free, I found it in the woods on a truck that has been sitting in the ditch for about 5 years now.

I guess I'll have to find something to put it in, Maybe my girlfriends dad's Ford Ranger  :gap:

If the cdase is divorced its a passenger drop if I recall correctly.  I believe they swapped over to driver side drop in 86 1/2. (?)
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Yup Yup

You can rotate the case for whatever you need too.

You can only rotate it 3 ways, if you turn it on one of the sides then the  shift linkage will be facing down.

I had it jacked up under my truck to see if it would fit and it looked good other than the stock t-case was in the way  :headscratch:

Oh well, I really need some diagrams on how to make the dual t-case adapter plate :dunno:

Has anyone ever made one before?

Thanks for the info on the t-case guys  :beerchug:

Dual Toy adapter? Unless you got a mill and know how to use it I would just buy that from Marlin and spend your time doing somthing else like wheeling.

if i remember right  the front output is actually centerd. i had looked into doing   this myself.  ive seen some people  cut the front output off the married case ( the one behind the tranny)  and then  hook the divorced case up.  OR  you could clock  your tcase tranny and engine to the point of where its out of the way..  which is what i'll be doing to stuff an divorced np205 into my truck.   tripple  stick rear case   woooo  :gap:

i've heard of datsun cases used as a doubler in the days before marlin's crawl box adapter.  the 720 trucks had a divorced t-case with a wierd center drop(front and rear outputs are centered).  i think the front end is actually passenger drop, but has unequal length half shafts.  kind of a wierd beast if you ask me

I like to build crap, if someone gave me plans of something I would build it... I guess if I looked at the T-case long enough I'd figure it out.

You are correct, the front and rear are centered, but you can turn it sideways... They are strange looking. I seen someone cut the front output off also, but its not a good idea.
Also I wouldn't clock my whole motor, tranny and t-case that far.

The truck I got it out of (busted up one in the woods) was independant in the front, so it was centered for a reason.

Now I have 2 divorced t-cases that I can't do anything with  :smack:

you could  stack them up  so you had a front driveshaft long enough to  run it centerd and have a giant compound angle to the diff  :gap:

Even I being a Nissan follower at one time would not use that case anymore. Not saying it ain't a good case, but use Toy stuff, it just works together better than having a bunch of driveshafts to worry about. Put those on eBay and get rid of them.
