MCR16 Official Picture thread!
« on: Sep 18, 2017, 04:09:37 PM »
Let's see your pictures from this year's MCR16 Round Up event!!

WHEW! What an AWESOME EVENT!! This one was probably the most memorial event for me and the amount of positive feedback we received from so many people was AMAZING!! Many people saying this was the best Round Up of all time! Had over 400 people in attendance!! I'll be posting all our pictures to an album soon.

Until then, here are a few of my own to kick it off :driving: :camping:

Update: If you're posting on Facebook or Instagram, please use hashtag #mcr16 :hattip:

Bonus pics! I had to leave the trail Thursday for a parts run and returned Friday evening with two passengers (first time ever wheel'n with two passengers). To avoid heavy traffic I decided to try out for my first time ever Wentworth Springs (not even in my '81 Hilux!). We went in solo and took all the hard lines and WOW that section of the trail offers some very nice obstacles!

I believe history was made as the first 3rd gen Tacoma has now conquered all of Wentworth Springs! :o

Mike, you're making me want to build a 3rd gen tacoma :gap: Did you make it up soup bowl?
Thanks man, it's quite the learning experience. When I ran Rubicon two months ago for TLCA so many things seemed impossible and now this time around I tried a few "impossible" lines and to my surprise was making them. My confidence and comfort level has gone up drastically since July and now I've figured out three specific lines that gave me huge issues last time. It still feels like I'm taking a limousine Suburban through the trail but I'm quite impressed at how quickly I've been able to make approach and line adjustments. The last tough spot down the Big Sluice before the bridge was n-a-s-t-y. I got hung up pretty bad through there. Last time it was those new boulders at the top of Cadillac that required effort, one boulder of which has since been moved, but this time it was that spot before the bridge that was the worst.

As for Soup Bowl I tried for a solid half hour with about 5 different lines and couldn't make it. The main issue was in that above picture I am smack dab on my frame rail. I need a few more inches ground clearance (for comparison my '81 Hilux on the same size tires has nine inches more ground-to-frame clearance, seriously). The secondary issue was that I really needed to get my driver's rear over more such as the nice line you have pictured above, but the Tacoma is so freaking long and currently only has a plastic rear bumper so I couldn't parallel park over far enough to get that approach without destroying plastic. I tried like a 10 point parallel park maneuver to try to get over more but there was no way.

Love the last pic from your pass. front tire :yesnod: Nice creativity

What diameter are your MTRs?

Regards,
BigMike

Were you able to get your AW11 to the Springs?

Hahahah.  No, I brought my Hilux.  This summer I was trying to take my Hilux to the off-road trail at Hell Hole reservoir, but my new re-centered Humvee wheels were shaking like a dog shitting razor blades.  I ended up giving up, driving home, getting in the MR2 and driving there in that instead.  Obviously no trail action, but still a nice vacation at the lake.  I've since tightened my steering stabilizer bracket (doh!), adjusted toe, and rotated tires.  It still shakes more than I would prefer, but it was good enough to bring to MCR.  They may shake on the freeway, but they sure kick ass off-road.  Something about 37" tires at 6psi.

A 4runner that passed us when we stopped for breakfast.  About 1/2 a mile in from the Loon Lake entrance.

My Friend/Co-pilot cooking some breakfast on the side of the trail.

OOPS! I forgot to turn off my air compressors.  I really need a pressure switch.  This ended up happening twice on this trip.  I'm glad I didn't break anything.

Random 1st gen on the trail.

Picture of my truck where we stopped to have some lunch.

Some pictures of cool rigs that caught my eye at the springs.

Yodaman has one of the coolest rigs in my opinion.  It was fun to chat with Larry at the Subway in Pollock Pines on the way home.  Seems like a really cool dude.

I was pretending to be a photographer with the soft focus foreground.  haha.

Hmm... Didn't know I have the same front springs as the crawler truck.

Interesting that Marlin uses a compressor that is driven by a belt from his 3RZ, rather than electric ones.

I have to admit, I wish I had an onboard welder like this.

BigMike, where do I get a "3 pedals" sticker? haha.

I see you've already set out to getting some cosmetic trail damage on the new beast...

Love the new Tacoma though.

Here's a totally badass FJ cruiser that I saw.  I guess I didn't get a picture of the overall truck.  Here's some shots of the important stuff though.

Here's a nice 1st gen 4Runner, with some nice retro graphics.

Couple shots of my truck flexed out, after cadillac hill.  My friend behind the wheel.

Couple more shots I got of my pickup while my friend was driving.

Cool Tacoma that passed us.  (we like to take our time)  :turtle3:

Couple more rigs that we let by.

Jeep front, Toyota rear?

Interesting rig...

Ford Explorer

Couple more shots of my rig
