hi gents--
new here but been lurking n reading for a while. we've added a motor homely to our 4-vehicle Toydom....'85 RN55 1-ton chassis with a fiberglass poptop body sort of like a poptop Chinook, called a Bonanza Travelers Bandit.....about 6" longer than the extracab '02 Taco and GVW is 4800. stock 22RE, W40 4 speed trans for now, currently 3.9 rear. Wife and I are sneaking up on retirement and plan on
going where the climate suits our clothes ![Cool Guy ](https://board.marlincrawler.com/Smileys/marlin/cool2.gif)
for much of the year. we both like "rural", and a lot of the traveling will be in Mexico and BAja. Problem is, the damn thing is 2WD.
I know the correct answer is "
make the '85 chassis a log hauler and buy a 4WD Tundra or 3.4/4.0 Taco chassis to put under motor homely". given all the stuff I've rebuilt/replaced on the thing, I would definitely go that route if I were buying it today, knowing what I know now. however, lacking the shekels and time for that plan, would I be out of my mind to put a Taco e-locker rear axle under it? there's one locally on CL; not sure if it's the 58.5 or 60" wide one. I'm already planning on swapping in a wider rear axle to widen the track and have a '92 V6 axle for the purpose, with some 4.11 gears on the way. but if the e-locker would be worth doing, I can re-sell that axle.
anyway, thoughts? jeers? thrown overripe fruit?
thanx!
