22re altenator disease?
« on: Oct 30, 2016, 08:33:47 AM »
Here's the story, (85 4runner)
About 6 months ago my leaky ps pump fried my altenator,(made altenator short out to where it would get hot n drain battery when the circuit was connected to battery.) So I rebuilt ps pump and installed a used Denso alternator I had laying around. The second altenator lasted about two months till it was not putting out any charge so I then installed a autozone lifetime warranty pos. (Knowing now, I should have bought rockauto.coms denso :hammerhead:). Anyways this altenator lasted about an hr. Just long enough to install checked it was charging at 14.3volts. Went to drive out my road yesterday and all dash lights come on, the ebrake a/T oil temp, charge and I think one more. Drove it home battery's at 12.2. No altenator charge......

Looking for some gooday Ole yota head advice

Any other tests or advice would be :turtle:

OK thanks Dave will do,
I was out found a broken ground wire from head to firewall, wasn't the problem, maybe what could be Frying my altenators. I took my multimeter a tested the harness socket that plugs into altenator. A 3pin connecter 2 have 12v going into altenator. So my gut tells me it's the :pokinit: altenator. What's throwing me off I don't rember the trans light on when my last altenator was shot. Anyways anyknow of a replacement denso that's interchangeable?

Returned the altenator to autozone it was shot, didn't even put out power for an hr. Got my money back looking to buy a decent altenator. The only decent one is a denso from partsgeek, but it's remanufactured. Anyone run a remand denso or a gm 1 wire? Or know of any other good options

Mean green alternators are pricey, but put out 200 amps

I don't think I need a high output, just a reliable one will do, I run a big deep cycle that runs winch
