85 yota junkyard build on 60s
« on: Sep 14, 2016, 04:17:49 PM »
So I am building a old rusty Toyota (85) and i picked up a d60 kingpin front out of a early dodge from the junk yard all complete for 200 bucks in nice shape (4.10) gears,  and I looked for days for the matching rear to no luck found a ford Dana 60  rear with (4.56) for 75 bucks, now I want to run the lowest possible ring and pinion combo I can (7.17s) now could I use my (4.56) differential carrier and the (7.17s) fit? And would I have to get a new differential carrier to replace the front (4.10) carrier?  I'm new to Dana 60 swapping, my question is WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO MAKE 7.17s work in my danas!!! Someone help me here :blah: :shocking:

As far as I know you will have to get the lower ratio carrier for the 4.10 one.  You might just run the toy axles to start though.  How big are you wanting to go with this truck?

like stated above you will need to check the carrier and see what the largest ring gear you can fit in it usually they are stamped if not grab that casting number and hit up google. i would love to know what you are building and what tire size you are building im guessing a florida style mudder?  :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes:
