wanna help me build my first yota
« on: Jun 03, 2010, 12:58:09 PM »
Hi I'm buying my first toyota pick up I'll put up  a pic if it if I can it figer out. It's already built but I have to do something to make it mine. real trucks are built not bought, right. It's a 92 pickup 22re auto( any clue witch tranny/transfercase ) it has 35 inch pro comp mt"s with 4.88 gears. chevy rear springs and I'm not sure what lift is in the front. It is locked and spooled. I can get a 5spd easily,  but I like the ease of the auto. I'm thinking of the dual cases. will it work with a auto??? any other yota owners from the finger lakes??? I'll get pics after 11 post. I should of read that 5 min ago lol.

Welcome to marlin. Yes you can go duals with a auto trans. But it will be better for wheelin and the fun factor with a manual trans. What kinda wheelin you like to do? You going to sas or keep the ifs?

thanks for the hi's and the quick answer. uummm I think I'm gonna rock the ifs for a while. it is already after market. I know and understand I will loose articulation. but I will make up for that in traction. what do you think??? So my research is telling me I have one of two trannys. is there a place were we can right down to my truck like something that picks apart my vin?? darn I ask for a lot. anyway, from what I've been reading the ifs is quite strong. and it does have the skid plates so it looks almost as cool as a solid Axel.

O by the way. I love the idea of power sterring and a auto. it's the easiest wheeling ever. more or less I like everything but the mud. its messy and I hate eating it while I'm trying to work on it. hill climbs and small water falls and not big of gullys. not many rocks in ny

you should be able to go down to Kragen, car quest, pep boys or autozone and buy a replacement headlight with a higher wattage, If your looking for brightness as a new car you can by a HID kit but thats going to cost you some coin  :twocents:

you should have an A340F Transmission

A340F 22RE/22RTE/5VZ

Applications:

    * 1995-2003 4-Runner (4x4)
    * 2000-2004 Tundra (4x4)
    * 1985-1988 4-Pickup (4x4)

and the tcase is VF2A

Mechanical Linkage on Side with a 2.57 low gear

pretty sure that case comes off just like the tacos. so its dual case adaptable.

    • My 3.4 swap into a 92 pickup

ect is electronic controlled transmission.

If you change to 5speed you'll have to redo the rear shaft probably so consider that extra expense into your thinking.

Maybe someone will chime in and state that I am incorrect but I know when I went to auto for my 3.4 swap my driveline from when it was manual would not fit. Had to borrow an auto driveline from a guy to get me by.

However, if you dual case you;ll have to do that anyway.

Yea I have been reading and it seems like a pain. I think the thing to do is just get the double tcase set up from marlin. Ppl might like maunal. but theres more control with an auto. I used to be into sammi's and I drove one with an auto and power steering I thought I was in a caddy, lol. So I thik I'll stay auto. thanks for your time man

I did the manual swap on my 94 4Runner. It was fairly easy and had it done in a weekend.
I researched everything and this is one of the threads I used to get it done.
http://www.yotatech.com/f116/5spd-swap-writeup-146085/

Read and keep reading.
Dont let the actual process bother you. Its quite simple and only takes 6 wires to get you moving and lights working.

Now I am in the process of the 5VZ swap. Wish me luck!

oh and dont use the hard and soft lines... I used steel braided hydraulic line and it makes the process a whole lot easier!
