Yo, new member here, been lurking for a good while. I've wheel since I could drive, but only pushed the limits of basically stock yotas. I've been wanting to start a project and really get more  capable of doing the Rubicon and other trails around the Sierras.
So this '91 4runner kinda came to me. Runs "good" (3.0  :shudder:) and it's a 5spd, but it was rolled over at low speed. So for $650, I'm picking her up next weekend. It's got a pushed in A-pillar, mirror folded into the door, and a banged up bumper.
I'm gonna first try to do this body work to get a clean  windshield in, then start building.
I have little to no body work experience, but I'm handy with a welder. So let's see how this goes.

(Body working tips appreciated :stopit:)

Welcome to the board.  The 3.0, if maintained properly, will be just fine.  I have owned my '90 since new, and have only had to deal with 2 burnt exhaust valves.

How damaged is the A-pillar?  If inverted, you would be better off just picking up another Runner w/a bad 3.0 and swap the good engine in, you can usually find clean ones for $1k or less.

So... i went to check out the 4runner. Turns out it was on its top for a couple hours or so, and they tried to start it right when they turned it back over without draining the cylinders :smack:. It was hydrolocked, and poetically bent a rod. I figured it was too much trouble to deal with.

Fast forward 3 months.

I picked up an '85 pickup with a 22r. Pumped to have it,but it's needs some love. Engine needs a water pump, and an alternator, and has some leaks in the bottom end. The front passenger axel seal has a leak.

She's going to need some paint too

Looking forward to getting this thing on the road...then off the road :driving:

Bummer about the runner, but good score on the '85, get your axle seal from Marlin and you'll be good to go.  Don't go Cheepo on the water pump or alternator.  Quality parts will get you there and back, chinese parts are everywhere, beware.   :twocents:

Well, sounds like you still might have a decent parts truck for the money. If you don't mind sharing how much did you find the 85 for? I'm looking for an older pickup myself and not sure what I should expect to pay for one.

I got the 85 for $1000, running ok, starts up good, but high idle. Rear leaf is broken, no shocks whatsoever. I did the water pump, just went with napa parts. lifetime warranty and decent price. probably made in china but im just trying to get this thing streetable...for now. Im dealing with a real headache for the registration.

I had it sitting at my work for a couple weeks while i was moving. So i got it on a trailer again and brought it home. i was unloading it, and i blew out a brake line between the gas tank and the frame  :shakehead:. I took the bed off, dropped the gas tank, double flared and double nutted the line. Had a buddy help bleed the brakes, and while doing that, the other line broke right next to it, so patched that one too. Got the tank back in today and wheeled around my yard a bit (picture would go here). Fixed the leak on the bottom end too.

So the list is starting. Complete suspension, axles, a mess of spliced wires in the engine bay, interior, flatbed, tires (got some wheels from a buddy )

Should i go with a kit like the TG classic front end kit? or piece it together? its got everything but the ifs pump.

Location, generation, and condition will play a role in the pricing, Craigslist for/around your area will give you an idea of you what they are worth locally.
