Hey guys my name is Tim and I have an is300 with a 2jzgte swap. Made 430whp last year and then blew my w58 up. Switching to an r154 with all of the Marlin crawler drift motion upgrades. Shooting for 700whp this year. Hopefully the r154 will hold up to all of the abuse.
I started building the r154 yesterday and chipped a tooth on 5th gear. Currently looking for a new 5th gear which seems impossible to find.
Other than the 5th gear issue everything went smooth. I'm very eager to get the car back on the road.

Thanks. Are there many other 2jz people in here?

There aren't any that I know of, though a few have done 7mg & gte conversions.

If you use the the 700hp intelligently, the r154 should work, members in the MKIII Supra community run them behind the 7m's that are producing 500hp+ in their daily drivers, as well as those who have done 2jzgte swaps, with the cost and rarity of the v161 jetrag trans($6k), most don't have a choice.

From what I've researched and with the drift motion/marlin crawler upgrade kit I'm hoping the transmission can handle my abuse.
If i ever find a 5th gear ill be able to find out.  haha

Finally got some pics up too

Have you checked here

If  rebuilt trans isn't an option at the moment, the R150 trans was in 2wd 3rd gen('89-'95) 3.0 trucks, and has a similar st1 gear ratio to the V160, and taller 2 and 3rd gears than the R154.

I tried that site and they only had rebuild kits for the r154, no gears for sale.  Ive heard of the r151 5th gear fitting into the r154 but nothing confirming it for sure.
I ordered a 5th gear from japan out of a soarer which is an r154 with slight differences.  Had the same part number as my transmission so hopefully the 5th gear is the same.

I don't own a 2j but have friends that do. Id like to round one up to slap in a 1st gen pickup. I like them little motors alot.

That is some really nice power at the wheels. Was this in 3rd or 4th gear? Could be close to 500 crank HP. There aren't that many 2JZ-GTE owners here however we'll be the first to tell you that the W-series is not sufficient for a turbocharged 6 cylinder! Thank you for putting our products to the test. We know you will not be disappointed with the R154.

We have a JZ-powered MK3 customer pushing 1,300 HP through one of our race transmissions. After about 4 years he did finally manage to blow it up while powering shifting into 3rd. But to this day he remains the best example of how much power the R154 with our upgraded parts can handle. That said, we still only recommend about 500 HP. You'll do fine with 700 HP, just know that there are limitations to the R-series and after some point, depending how you drive you'll probably be looking to upgrade to something strong than it.

Thanks for the reply. That mk3 supra is really nice looking.
That pull was made in 4th gear. I would say it's pretty close to 500 to the crank. I have the dyno sheet somewhere, I'll see if I can find it.

On a positive note 5th gear is ordered and will be here in 4 weeks. I also picked up another r154 in good shape that I'm going to throw in the car.  I'm sending the transmission off to get built, I don't feel like taking any more chances.

Sadly when I was packaging it all up today I found a chip on 1st gear. I ordered that as well just to be safe. I don't want to take any chances with any of it.
I'm going to try to get 500whp out of the stock r154 and I'll shoot for 700whp when I get the built r154 back.

Big Mike do you work for Marlin crawler?

Mike is Marlins son lol. He's an avid lover of all things toyota. Especially when it comes to hp.

Well that's pretty cool. Like father like son I guess.
I got my new r154 taken apart yesterday. Cleaned it all up and resealed it.
I bought the Marlin crawler polyurethane shifter bushing. How do you guys usually get it in?  I don't want to force it and end up breaking it

redneckcustoms13

I sprayed mine down with white lithium grease and worked it in there.
