G54 to R150 Swap - Xfer Case?
« on: Apr 01, 2016, 08:33:32 AM »
Will an R150 swap right in place of a G54 in my '84 truck?  Same length, bolt patterns, etc?

Also, what about the transfer case?  The R150 doesn't have one so can I use the T-case that's in the truck now?

Thanks!

heres some good info on transmissions http://www.marlincrawler.com/tech/transmission/transmission-gear-ratio-chart I don't see a length on the r150, you would need a 22ret bellhousing, and an adapter from v6 trans to rf1a t case.

Like dave said, it would require about 400-500 in adapters to make it work. Just put a w series or another g series back in and let her eat.

Hmmm, thanks!

I'm planning a Chevy V6 swap in the future so it might make some sense.  The adapter bellhousing is something I'll have to buy anyway and if I keep my eyes open I'll probably be able to find a V6 transfer case.

There's an R150 on Craigslist for dirt cheap right now.  Seller claims it was making noise but seemed to work fine so he swapped it for another one.  At the price he's asking its worth it to buy it and rebuild it.
