Newbie here looking for advice
« on: Dec 23, 2015, 09:51:19 PM »
Hey all, I've just recently purchased a 1987 Toyota 4Runner. After the purchase I was told to Join this Forum. To be apart of a great network. Looking for any Advice available. I'm also looking for stock front and rear seats. As well as matching gears. After further inspection of the new purchase we found out the the front and rear is geared different so that's my number one fix at this point. Thanks to all for the help.

Those came stock with 4:10 gears.  If the rear is the odd one it is an easy swap of the 3rd member to a stock one.  The front is a little tricky because it doesn't just drop out like the rear.

For the front seats I found some SR5 seats out of a the same generation 4runner (84-89) at a junk yard and swapped them in.  Very nice and comfortable.

They came with 4.10, 4.56 and 4.88.  Some might even have the elusive 4.37.

This might help you, if they are still OEM gears in the axles.  Pull your drivelines off the pinion flange, and see if there is a color painted on the end of the pinion shaft.  And compare that to the chart in this link.   http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/4R_TechInfo.shtml#Differentials   But this will only work if they are still OEM diff's.  If they don't have any color, you may have to pull them and count the teeth.
