LA does do a voluntary weapon no questions asked turn in every year. You can trade in any weapon legal or not used to kill someone or not NO QUESTIONS ASKED. They do give you something in return but I've always wondered how many of those guns were used in the killing or other crimes that could have been traced back to a suspect. They do a good bit of business when they do this.

How could they trace it back to a suspect? Its been traded and sold illegally so many times, you realize those trades and sales dont go on record right?

They can through ballistics trace the gun back to a shooting. Then if they can place the person with the weapon with a reason to have used it in the commission of the crime they'd have a suspect, and people wonder why crimes go unsolved when the city destroyed the evidence without even testing it.

Depends on how good the detective work is. There are always answers, just depends on who, when, where, and how the questions are asked.

The opportunity to "ditch" a gun, especially when it is "hot" is readily taken advantage of. Especially when you get a "reward" for it, no questions asked.

Its a lot harder to follow a weapon's back trail when it is presented in a pile of other firearms with no "prior owner" on record.

Ballistics dont work, after a gun has been shot a dozen times, it changes the marks

think like a criminal for a minute
if you killed someone with a gun or knew it had been involved in a crime,
would you be willing to go near law enforcement with it? if you were a criminal?
even if you aquired it say from a buddy and thought it was sketch, would you be willing to do it?

Now I would never buy a gun that i wasent sure was legit.
so if i had one that i no longer wanted and couldnt sell it, id take them up on that offer.

get it? criminals want there guns legit or not, theyll get more for them from other criminals

You dont get it, a criminal can not have a legit gun, they are criminals!
All felons and some lesser crimes make it so people are banned from gun ownership, look it up, its pretty cool
Which means even if they bought a gun from a person, and the gun is not stolen its still a crime for them to have it, plus if you sell them a gun and know their are a felon you just committed a crime as well.

domestic violence has a 10 year state and life time federal ban.
same as if you have been committed against your will to a psych ward.

Or would you want to buy a gun off the streets, thats been traded, sold, ( illegally) stolen a few times etc and kill someone? Its been through so many hands, how could the police track who pulled the trigger?

It can't happen by signing the treaty alone, treaties do not create federal laws, only those bills passed by both houses of Congress and signed into law by the Pres. do. The only way for the bullet/gun ban treaty could ever effect U.S. citizens directly is for the components of treaty being used to create a bill in the House of Reps., the Senate, then passed by both houses, then signed into law by the Pres., and then such a bill would have to survive challenge in the federal courts.
