Frame reinforcment, where and how?
« on: Feb 27, 2012, 01:22:51 PM »
Im starting a project. It is an 84 ill be putting on a new cab and flat bed. While I have it down to just the frame iwant
to reinforce it as i have heard of frames cracking from the stress of rock crawling. What is the best way to do this?
Would love some pointers guys thanks.

Here is where my frame failed and how I fixed it. But if you are starting from scratch I would run 1 solid plate on either side of the frame by the steering box and triangulate the inside corner(you can see it in the pictures).

I also started plating the rear.

Frame reinforcement or repair?  I haven't heard much on older trucks(non Tacoma) needing plated. Most of what I have seen is repair from rust.  Here is our patch job  http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=85797.msg979023#msg979023 on top of another persons patch job.  I have heard Tacoma's need reinforcement on front frame for SAS and and boxing in and plating on the rear frame as it is C channed from the cab back.
