The mysterious miss
« on: Jan 27, 2012, 10:57:12 PM »
So a couple days ago I went to do emissions testing on my 94 pickup with a 22re. Everything's stock but it doesn't have a cat. For this reason I've put off testing for a year. Anyways, my truck passed everything except 1 idle test. So I took it to a mechanic and he said it was from a rough idle and I'll be able to pass emissions if that gets fixed. The truck's always had a very sparatic miss that goes away when you're driving. My mechanic tried a bunch of stuff over an hour or so, checking for vacuum leaks, checking spark plugs and wires, distributor, everything simple, nothing helped. So the only thing he can think of is to check timing and adjust the valves, but he ran out of time today so I'm bringing it back Monday. My question is then, what else could cause this miss? I was hoping to adjust the valves this weekend but I don't know how, so I might learn if that's a possible cause.

do a compression test. adjust the valves than check timing. could be injectors as well
