« on: Nov 19, 2011, 05:04:53 PM »
my mom got a 1985 toyota 4 runner EFI stock straight axel she has had it for about 7 years and drives the thing everywhere it has alot of miles on the motor and it is hard for her to drive it due to the lift and gears and big tires cant really go to far not enough power where would be the best place to get it for a rebuild so it can have more power or what are some simple solutions for more power

Simplest way aside from the cost is just to have a Jasper reman put in it.

if its not smoking out the tailpipe, gearing the difs is going to help alot more than a motor rebuild.

165,000  :shocking:   :circle:  :o that engine is just broken in. What color is the smoke? WHen you did the head gasket did you have the head resurfaced? anyways... I would look at droping down to 35s. The 22re does not have a lot of power stock. If you do decide to get a built engine remember the stock 22re computer suports about 250hp before it stops fueling. If you are reallylooking for power look at doing a 4.3 swap. With AA you can make it all bolt in A LOT more power good fuel mileage and for what you are going to pay to put a nicely built 22re in you can be done with the 4.3 swap sorry just my  :twocents:

:ack:  for as long as I've been driving I've heard they are junk, usually from people who are utterly pissed off after buying a cheap engine that soon failed instead of a good engine that would have cost them more.  Heard great things about Dave's engines, as well as ATK rebuilds, though the ATK are pricey!
