I want an automatic trans.......?
« on: Oct 24, 2011, 05:54:08 PM »
I have my buggie to build and I want an auto in it, What do you think is the best route......

1) stay with the 22re I have and find a auto trans for it.   ( can I get dual gear drive Tcases for it?)

2) 22re and a chevy transmission?

3) 3.4 V6 and what? trans......can they be dual cased.....and right hand drop?

I am gonna be running two toy front axles so I can have rear steer.

4) 4.3 chevy, turbo 350, dual toy T cases.

It's a bare frame so the option list is long......

I have 22re stuff and know where to get a complete auto trans/Tcase for it.
4.3 chevy and trans is easy, many of those around here fairly cheap.
I know nothing of the 3.4 toy at all but I do know where a supercharged one can be had.

six of one half a dozen of the other....to many options makes this hard. :dunno:

Good option

Looks like I really need to research the A340F, But I am kinda leaning towards the 4.3 chevy option....Around here you need horse power and wheel speed ,crawling don't always cut it.

I vote for #4 cuz i have that set up. 4,3 th350 duels with 4.7 rear is crazy with this set up.  Most the time i dont even need the 4.7 but its so nice to have when i want it. Run a good cooler with fan for the tranny. I dont even use the stock cooler in the radiator. I just run a external with a fan and it hasnt even got close to hot yet.

A friend of mine has a 4.3 with a th400 dual ultimates and it is an awesome rig. If I had a bland canvas that is exactly what I'd do.

I am starting to love my automatic but I don't think it's a good option behind a 22re.  There's just too much power loss.  I like the 3.4 idea but the Chevy 4.3 is probably going to be cheaper because there are tons of them and plenty of aftermarket support.

You can dual case any of those options. My vote is either the 3.4 or the 4.3. I wouldn't run 4.7s behind either, just 2 stock cases. Both have enough grunt to make the torque convertor work for you and add more crawlability (is that a word) but also allow you to spin up the motor for a bit more wheel speed in each gear.

I have two stock cases, so a double kit and a chevy to toy adapter and the 4.3 is looking like the better choice.   I like toyota running gear but $$$$ signs play a big part in my builds chevy parts are way cheaper and easier to come up with.

I really like the 3.4 but the 4.3 is definitely more plentiful and therefore the cheaper route and makes the choice between the 2 a bit less difficult.  :ha_ha:

It will be EFI for sure, Don't know what type yet depends on what I can come with for the right dollars.
