Whats the best combo for GM/automatic for a CJ-7
« on: Apr 15, 2009, 02:35:26 PM »
:sad2:  I'm putting a 383 stroker/carburated in a 76 cj-7 and not sure of trans combo's turbo 350s are supposed to be just as strong as 400s but which transfer-case and adapter combo works best for crawling and daily driver with 4:56 gears and 33s?   :hammerhead:

Cool, I just finished my own CJ7 build.  Hope your as happy as I am, mine turned out pretty sweet.  Did you go with a T350 or a T400?

I was at Pick and Pull in Fresno yesterday and saw a first gen Toyota pu with a dana 30 front end and a dana 20 transfer case.  Obviously a 2WD conversion.  I thought about grabbing the adapter from the tranny to the transfer but it was about 10" long and behind the old cast iron Toyota 4 speed.  Didn't think it would be worth much.
I think the 400 was the better choice.  Ive been told the 350 is better because its lower 1st gear, but its so negligible its not even worth mentioning.  Have fun.....
