Intake gaskets
« on: Aug 27, 2011, 07:35:55 AM »
I'm replacing my injectors on a 1985 22RE. I want to fully clean the intake. When I reassemble everything, do I need paper gaskets or can I use RTV sealant?

If I need paper, where can i get them? Napa auto?

when I changed out my fuel injectors , on my 85 4runner 22re , I bought a intake gasket from toyota for about 7 or 8 bucks , and I took my intake to a shop and they put it in there ultra sonic cleaner for a day and it looked like new inside when I got it back, but I only did that because it was filled with some kinda thick black concentrated goo that I couldnt get out with anything ..   that was $25..

make sure you use silicone on the water ports. i just did one with a factory toyota gasket with out silicone and it leaked coolant. i had to redo it.

you shouldnt need to remove the lower intake from the head.  just the upper intake.  but I do like the full boil out of the intake.

I wasn't planning on pulling the lower, I could, to clean it, but it's a hastle. I'll pull the throttle body and upper intake to clean them. I'm going to replace the fuel filter too.

Since the upper intake doesnt need anything special, could I use a generic paper gasket from like O'Reillys?
