22r rebuild. Any suggestions?
« on: Jun 14, 2011, 06:58:58 PM »
I am fixin to rebuild my 22r. I have a good block thats 30 over, 12 rods that I could prolly get 4 good ones out of, and maybe a good crank. Other than that everyting is bunk. Does anyone have any suggestions for what I should use? I am limited on income but Im lookin for some good  :pokinit:.  I looked at a engnblr head and cam, but I dunno what I wanna do yet. Lookin for a decent master rebuild kit too, not too cheap but not top of the line either.

i got the engnbldr head and 261 cam for my rebuild. nice stuff. has about 800 miles on it so far. no quarrels. not a powerhouse, but what did you expect.

as far as gasket kit.....FOR GOD'S SAKE GET THE GD TOYOTA HEAD GASKET!! AND MAKE SURE BOTH THE HEAD AND BLOCK ARE PERFECTLY FLAT BEFORE TORQUING DOWN TO FSM spec.
i did a lot of reading before i did mine and seems like every head gasket issue i found (new and old) was related to either crappy machined surface, incorrect torque, or poor quality gasket.

it costs the same as aftermarket and is faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar better than anything you can get in the aftermarket.
 my :twocents:

get those things right and the rest is gravy.

I heve been using the Fel-Pro HG's and they seem ok but Im not sure with my recent engine woes. I will definitly give the Toyota one a try. Both the head and block will be going to the machine shop to have some work done and brought back into spec.

Ive done it before using

Where you located? I have a complete late model 22r engine in partial dissasembly with a good head sitting in the shop. In Clarksville TN. Don't want to ship, but if your close enough we could work something out.
