22r /re Cylinder head grooving?
« on: Mar 24, 2011, 12:49:38 PM »
Anyone groove their 22r/22re heads out there?  I am looking for pics.
THis is a link to a site about the theory of head grooving: http://somender-singh.com/content/view/68/49/

Full of doomsday eco nazim and global warming crap, but I know guys who have done this on race engines and swear by it.

never heard/seen this before. can't think for what the advantage is, cly cooling? I would think
it might make the eng. knock at high revs under high load. do to "hot spotting".

The guy I know who did it said that after countless 1/4 mile drag race runs at over 6,000 rpms
they pulled the head and it was a nice clean-no carbon deposits or fouling.

The other guy said his truck runs 20 degrees cooler, idles smooth at 500 rpms, has no pinging and he gets 5 mpg better now.

Too bad the website is so packed with useless propaganda about the world ending because our cars don't run efficiently blah blah blah... :stopit:
The inventor of the idea should have made a website that explains the theory of "grooving" and shown us how to do it-simple and concise.  Maybe then people would catch on to the idea.

Do a GOOGLE search and you will find many writes ups on it, here is an excerpt from one:

By substantially increasing turbulence within the cylinder, Singh Groove enables more of the fuel to be burned and it burns at a faster rate. This promotes cleaner engine exhaust, cleaner oil, more power, lower operating temperature, no pinging and significantly increased engine power at all levels. Since fuel is being burned more completely, the engine runs clean and cool. As for tuning, you will find that the carbs need less fuel to accomplish what they did before. Hence better fuel economy.

Yeah, I know all that, what I am looking for is some pictures of a early 22r head that has had this mod done to it.

From what I can tell, The "squelsh" area of the head is very small which makes it difficult to apply the "groove".
