upgrading a '82 Toy
« on: Oct 28, 2002, 09:40:04 AM »
Hi guys,  Looking for some advice...
I have a 1982 short wheel base rig to start with as a base.  I have the original 22R with a 4spd and transfer case.  I also have a '96 3RZ engine/tranny and transfer case.  I am hoping to use this motor on the 82 frame.
Questions:  Can the W59 tranny be used?  Will it bolt up to the '82 transfer case in order to get the front drive back to the right side?  Does Marlin make an adapter to put a dual setup in this drive?  Since the exhaust is on the right side on the 3RZ engine, is there clearance for the exhaust and the front drive line?  What brackets will fit the 3RZ engine to add power steering?
Thanks for the help and advice...
Roger

Yes, the 3RZ is the 2.7L found in several T100's and Taco's.
I have looked at the Marlin dual case page but it appears as if the adapters that are needed are in the development process.  Does any one know if they are currently available?  Marlin does not show a price.  Maybe someone from Marlin can let me know when these adapters will be available and a price....
Thanks,  Roger

Hello Roger,

I never knew this post was here (I was gone for about 4 months) but we have been replying to another post regarding swaping in a 2.7L Tacoma/T100 engine. You can read its contents by pointing and clicking here.

Basically, You will use the W59 Bellhousing on a W56 Transmission (Or G-series transmission, same thing). Or use a W59 Bellhousing and Transmission, and use a W56 (or G-series) rea tail housing. Both methods will allow you to directly bolt up your stock 82' 4 Spd transfercase.

The adapter we have for the Tacomas, the MC09, is almost ready for the 27-spline 4Cyl 2.7L W59 Transmission, but it is intended to convert from a Gear drive (79-95) Transfercase BACK to a stock right hand drive Tacoma/T100 Transmission.

So in your case our MC09 does not apply.

Regards,
BigMike

Hope you got all the wire harness and connectors..Gonna need it all..I am getting mine all set up..maybe here in the next two months I will put it in.I am doing a mock up first on a empty frame. Then it will be a direct bolt in operation..You should read the other post...Mike..Is that right..you want to convert to a gear drive right hand drive not from it right..the stock t-case is left hand drive/chain case right..Or is it too eayly for me to be out of bed..so you want to convert from a lefthand dive, chain drive to a gearcase right hand drive..Is that how it works?Wheres the coffee? :conf:
