Hi Crawlers,I have been doing some reading on Bob is the oil guy, and I'm wondering if I can use a oil in the steering knuckle?
QuoteHi Crawlers,I have been doing some reading on Bob is the oil guy, and I'm wondering if I can use a oil in the steering knuckle? The problem is you would leak the crap everywhere, and leave your stuff dry. The seals are not designed for it. Yes it would be sufficient and possibly better. You have many other considerations, top bearing lube, and a sealing surface. We use this type of lubrication every day, not in this application.
go away frank
Thanks for the reply Kevin, well no it dont leak everywhere just discharges and coats the ball, this is a picture of about worse case senerio discharge on the knuckle, 6 months after repair, and deep groove in straight ahead position, and pittedChecked level 6 months after repair,, no need to add,,, leakage in a sense of Class 1 leakage, yes leakage is broke down into 3 classes, Class 1 leakage is desired, preferred, just talked to a wheeler yesterday with one of these rigs, said he put some grease on the exposed steel, figered he should, Yep he is right,But this does it for you,,,As it should the seals are in fact designed for it,,,And Keven you say you use this all the time ? where ? in What ?Thanks a bunch Frank
Wenhar has been warned.
well I do think that it is possable,no leaks, help lube a little betterbut thats not the problem for stock birfs, there plain weakoil in there wont help that!and longs would recomend it if it ment less returns on lifetime parts!
