2" OR 2.5" BACKSPACED WHEELS
« on: Apr 03, 2010, 09:46:23 PM »
I searched and couldn't find anything.

Who has em, and where did you get them.
I would like to get some steel wheels with 2" or 2.5" BS and do the DIY beadlock wheels.

Thanks for the info.

Allied will make them for you. They just flip the center. At that point it will be more cost effective to just buy Allied locks. Everyone says the rings are too thin :shake:, but I havent had any problems. They do stock 2.75 bs.

Most of the time rock rings are 1/4 or so. Allied uses 1/8(IIRC). However they have a raised lip that protects the bolt heads. //End threadjack//

Reversed wheels are pointless to beadlock. The inner bead will just fall off. A custom wheel that has that backspacing will be kinda pricey.

depends on what size you get.  the standard 15x8 is pretty cheap, however my 17x9 2.5" backspace "soft 8s" were 140 a piece

X2, save your $$$ and don't beadlock them.  Another option is Stauns or Inner Air locks.

I personally don't think it would be absolutely pointless to beadlock the wheels.   The way i see it is, at least you are guaranteed to not blow that outer bead.  So even if you do blow the inner bead, you just lift the tire off the ground, and apply some pressure and some air, and it will go back on.

I have also seen people weld a bead all around the wheel, which will help keep the tire on.  I have also seen people glue their tires on.

How many normal beadlocked wheels have you seen loose an inner bead (which is where safety bead is located on a normal wheel)?  I've haven't seen very many.  Now on a reversed shell wheel (safety bead is now on the outside) that is beadlocked, you have the non safety bead side of the wheel on the inside.  You'd be loosing inner beads left & right if you ran them at beadlocked pressure.

I lost an inner bead last Oct.  These are 2.5" backspaced wheels running @ 5-6 psi.

I got mine from summit, but they were not powder coated.  I had to paint them my self, and the paint doesn't hold up well (every time you pull a weight, or put one on it messes up the paint).
I have 2in because I wanted to be as wide as possible. However now I wish I would have just gone with the ones listed from 4WP above. They were cheaper, and they are coated.

Im just saying my opinion on the matter.
I have lost inner, outer , and both beads at once.

And that is what convinced me to get some locks.  Last snow season i lost 8 beads in one day or something ridiculous like that.
I have not lost one bead on my beadlocks yet, but they are not reversed.

I have seen buddys with 2.5" bs wheels loose only the outer bead, then later in the day loose both.
They weren't necessarly running beadlock pressures, but regardless, they did loose beads.

I was thinking of doing that plus maybe welding a bead around the inner lip, or gluing it on as well as the outer lock.

At least that bead was lost on dry ground..  This sucks when it happens.. :haha:

Do you guys think the ones from 4WP are reversed or normal with 2.5" BS? That would be a pretty good option, and I will probably pick up a set if you think if they aren't reversed?
I'm with you guys its kinda pointless to beadlock the bead that isn't going to blow!

What do you think?

Call and ask.  I would bet that they are reversed.

I am going with reversed. I think its the only way to get that little of BS out of that wheel.

They take the center of the rim out and flip it around.  So what was the inside bead, is now the outside bead, and what was the outside bead, is now the inside.

Hope that helps

2.5" on my black rims from 4Wheelparts. They work great and make it so I don't need spacers to gain a little width. These aren't beadlock though.
