1984 pickup 22r
« on: Oct 24, 2009, 09:50:56 AM »
This is the case, I'm not to good with carburaters

but this is the scenerio, my cousin bought a 84 pickup but the car has been

sitting for 2 years. We tried starting it, but all it does is it cranks and No turn over.

But it won't start or turn over. I was told by some techs that the float boats have no gas since

It's been sitting for so long.    Anybody got any idea to start the vehicle. Any help and suggestion

is appreciated,  thank you

If you think its not getting fuel put just a small squirt directly into the carb, and give it a try, atleast then you will know for shure whether or not that is the issue. From there you can always put a rubber fuel line from the fuel pump into a container of gas, to check the fuel pump while eliminating the rest of the fuel system.
Hug your kids, pray for a soldier, and don't sweat the small stuff.

sitting for two years the first thing i would do is pull the spark plugs and put a shot glass full of atf down in each cylinder and let it sit over night, then before putting the plugs back in spin the motor over to get the excess out , then put the plugs back in,  this will free up any rings that are stuck

X3 on pouring some gas (table spoon full at a time) down the carb

you might get a test light and make sure the distributor is getting power when the key is switched on.  Check the rotor under the distributor cap make sure all the contacts are clean while youre in there.  Make sure your battery is good and charged too.  might see if the factory ground straps are still in place too.
