Flywheel Install?
« on: Jul 30, 2009, 05:14:14 AM »
How do you keep the engine from rotating when torquing the flywheel to the crank?  The last time I did this was a long time ago on a supercharged 408ci small Chevy and if I recall there was a slot where I could insert the handle of a tool in order to torque the bolts without the engine trying to rotate.  If anyone has a suggestion please let me know, I am sure there is a nifty trick.  Also is there a specific torque or just "good and tight"?  Thanks guys and gals!

Use a tie down strap around the ring gear, and tie it off to the frame.
I used a piece of flat bar, drilled to fit the bolt holes for the clutch housing.

Use thread lock. And yes there is a specific torque. Don't know it off the top of my head but there's definitely a specific torque.

The torque is like 85 lbs.
And the clutch housing is 14 lbs.
