Topic: The Governator strikes again - 220 CA State parks proposed to close.

Here we go again! Last year, you were one of more than 50,000 Californians who supported the Save Our State Parks campaign and helped stopped the closure of 48 state parks. I’m writing to you because we need your help again, and urgently.

Just this week, the Governor announced a new proposal to eliminate state funding for our state park system – which will close over 200 state parks. His proposal to cut $143 million from our state parks is 10 times worse than last year's proposal. CSPF is kicking off the Save Our State Parks campaign again, and we need your help to take action TODAY and tell the Governor and your state legislators that gutting funding to state parks is unacceptable.

Next Tuesday, June 2, the Legislature's Budget Conference Committee will consider this proposal. Right now, state park advocates need to make their voices heard and your contact to your legislators is critical. Please take action TODAY and tell them to reject the proposal and save our state parks.

Man and I thought it was bad last year when he proposed that 75 parks get closed.... holy hell. There are some AWESOME parks on that list, closing those down is like erasing CA history for all that wish to see it and experience it. Sutter's Fort was by far, the COOLEST field trip I had ever been on as a kid. That place is so freakin' cool!! I can't imagine that millions of kids that will be deprived of that experience and that of all the other great parks on the list if this goes through.... what a bummer.

I sent my letter in. Its easy folks even if you aren't from CA please fill out the info and send in the pre-written letter... its the least you can do.... if you have never been to any of our parks then you have even more reason to send one in because you might not get a chance for a long time to do so if this goes through.....

I agree- not only is this cutting into our history, it's cutting into our children's education. Most of these places are where schools take their biology/photography/science/history classes.

For sure... the children are the ones that are hurt the most by this, I know I went to at least a dozen of those parks as a child on field trips and those are the things you don't forget....

While I agree that ANY park closed is a bad thing, this might present opportunity for the 4WD/OHV community too.

If the state is forced to raise funds to close spending gaps, they might auction off excess land like never before. This could be an opportunity for groups to band together and buy land formerly not available, and in turn develop them into privately owned OHV parks where the greenies can't say crap about what goes on there.

Along with the awesome sites on there, I also see many "parks" on there that are run down holes, that nobody will ever miss.

It's possible that the parks won't close, they just won't have funding to operate normally, parks like those could hopefully then be adopted and maintained (as public land) by OHV user groups. Wouldn't that be sweet, state run rec. areas similar to our national forrest system?!

I am still a little confused as to what happens when they "close" a state park.  Obviosly, it will still be there, and as beautiful as ever.  Will it be auctioned as a previous poster suggested?  Or will the bathrooms be locked, museums shut down, and maintainance stopped?  I personally think that the BLM does a better job of managing land anyway.  I just wish the Governor would get serious about budget reform.  Taking away the things that are near and dear to taxpayers is a cheap tactic.  Education, fire protection, law enforcement, transportation and public lands.  Those are the things we pay taxes for.  Those are not the things that are dragging us down.  Signing these petitions, and making compromises are not going to change a dam thing.  My feeling is No Taxes, No vote.  Unless of course you are retired and have payed your part.  Those who dont contribute are voting how to spend our money.  That is just plain wrong.
