Speedo gears
« on: Dec 01, 2008, 03:32:39 PM »
Is there a speedo gear out there that I could put in to correct my speedometer if I'm running 33's and 4.30's?

It needs to be out of a truck with 3.90s. I know that for a fact.

Don't more teeth mean a slower speedo? Otherwise I'm with you.

Just larger tires, less teeth on speedo gear = (old tire diameter/new tire diameter)* existing teeth

Just a change to larger ratio (4.10->4.56), more teeth on speedo gear = (new ratio/old ratio)*existing teeth

So, I want less teeth. Right?  :hammer: I need to  on this, then it will make sense again.  ;)

Now: 33, 4.30, W56

The W56 would have the speedo gear from the donor, so need the axle ratio from the donor vehicle.............

For Tire diameter change:

29/33 * current W56 speedo gear = .88 * Current W56 speedo gear = new speedo gear

If axle ratio of donor vehicle was 4.3, you're done

otherwise:

(4.3 / (donor axle ratio)) * (new speedo gear above)

So a w56 speedo combination is .88 so what is a A340's speedo combination? I could pull the speedo from my truck as it is from the auto but I thought I could research it online. I still think it's a 17 tooth. So does anyone know if there is a 17 tooth speedo?

An 86 with W56 had 4.10s and an 18 tooth speedo gear (225 /75 R 15 stock tire 28.3" diameter)

With 31s, (30.5" diameter), I went with 17 tooth.

Okay, I have a 19 tooth, that came from the automatic.
So break 2 teeth off & you'll have 17  :gap:

I don't know if there is a speedo shop in Stockton but give these guys a call & ask them. I'm sure they have one or can tell you where to get one.

True, but 10% is easier to calculate.
